swim? LOL, keeloh is the third boxer i have known personally now that sinks like a brick. Poor guy loves the water, but after about 4 kicks, he looks like he can barely keep his head above water!:(
Meanwhile, my rottweiler has learned to swim circles around him and taunt him. What a pair:rolleyes: I am glad he will get in, alot of boxers i have heard hate the water- luckily mine loves it!

I've known a few people with boxers who they could swim in the water, Im always down by the beach, river, my pool.. so my baby will have a chance to try it and hopefully she'll succeed.

oh he swims, or tries. Its just painfully funny at times. Almost looks like he doesn't want to get his head wet while he has to much junk in his trunk...hehe.

Tank's been around water a couple times..the first time my friend and I took Tank and her boxer, Fallon, to the city park..as soon as we gave them freedom from their leashes..they went straight into the pond!! Who'd a thought?..hehe. The second was a river we came to while 4x4ing ..a friend tossed a stick into the water..and before I knew it..Tank had jumped in and went after the stick. Last time was at the beach, Tank tried and tried to head for the water, but I wouldn't let him off of his leash :( My boyfriends boxer on the hand..thought he owned the beach..and is also quite the little swimmer.

I wonder if it has something to do with them not wanting to get wet??

I read somewhere that boxers are very fastidious in their personal hygiene and hate to get wet or dirty. My Rock definitely fits the mold. He almost always will walk around a puddle...if he steps in one it's by accident and you would think he just stepped in molten lava for crying out loud.

Shelby jumped in the river while we were walking and decided she wasn't a fish either. Dunno...I thought alllll dogs could swim. Maybe not?!

:D A good size creek runs along the edge of our property. (country) We walk Sophie down there all the time and finally last weekend we chucked things in the water and she tried to get them. She loved the water, but it was not even up to her neck. It's a pretty fast moving creek with lots of boulders in it so she lost her balance and fell over a few times. I don't know if she would actually swim or not.

Chloe LOVES water. She wont jump in the pool yet becasue i havent given her permission, but she puts her feet in her water bowl(when we are outside) and she loves to splash around in it to. I am so embarred at the dog parks because she runs full speed to the water and then puts her front feet out in front of her INTO the water bowl and skids. I have to change the water at least 5 times while we are there.!! I live in AZ and cant wait to take her to the lake this summer, she is going to love it!

Some can and love it. The Boxer of my childhood (Amos) was a nut for the water and jumped in the creek or a lake every chance he could and had a blast! He would swim circles around us kids.

You obviously haven't met my two mud pies! There isn't a mud puddle deep enough for these two girls. I swear they are part pig!!

Maggie swims, but not well. Susie won't get in water other than spray water.

They don't swim because of the physical build. All big heavy haunches and those large chests don't make for smooth sailing through water. Their feet tend to sink and they end up swimming upright, paddling and paddling.

But some Boxers do swim and love it. I'm sure some are better at it than others as well. I just watch carefully when Maggie is swimming so that she doesn't tire and start sinking!

My Gnarly sunk like a rock the first time he experienced water. Went flying in not knowing what it was and didn't come up for ages. When I was about to jump in he came up and started swimming, seeming to have the hang of it. Very reluctant to go in again as he got a little scared. Next time we took him to the river he sunk again then swam aroung like a spaz with half his body out of the water and legs flying in front, not eloquent at all. Embarrassing when swimming with my parents lab cross who is an excellent swimmer and only holds her head out of the water (not her whole chest).

Just recently when he when to the river again he loved the water but didn't venture deep enough so as to have to swim, guess he realises that he's just not cut out to be a swimmer, but enjoys a paddle none the less.
