My wife and I have been looking at possibly getting another dog once our new house is finished (looking at mid-March). I really love boxers, but already having Semmie, I am strongly considering an Alaskan Malamute (female, of course). How do Boxers in general do with other breeds? I realize it mostly depends on the type of attitude your particular Boxer has, but I was just curious if anyone has any info. What about a Husky? Anyone with any information, please let me know. Thanks!

Personally, i just want Boxers and more Boxers, but...

Mac's two best friends are a female lab/great dane Mix and a male English bulldog. He has a blast with both those dogs. There is no particular breed I have seen him NOT like, but those are the ones I know he loves!

I have a boxer and a Yorkie. They get along just fine. There have been many threads about this. Just do a search and you will get some great info.

I have done some research on this site, and it seems as though most people suggest/recommend getting a second, female boxer. I have heard mixed results about this. Whenever I take Semmie on a walk or out to the park, he seems to be more interested in the other dogs walking around. The hair on the back of his neck/back stands stiff as a board, but he is never aggressive towards them. With this in mind, I have thought about the possibility of getting the Malamute to go with him, but I just don't want to create an explosive situation. Thanks for your comments.

I have split feelings about our second addition. Half of me says another boxer, while the other half says a malamute. Which half do I listen to? (My wife's half, pro-boxer, obviously outweighs my half :)

Not that this is expert information or anything, but Laila has a has a Husky in her puppy class that she sort of gets along with. They don't fight or anything like that, but she definately prefers the Newfoundland and the boxer mix. In fact, last week she wouldn't let the Husky near the Newfoundland when they were playing (again, not in a fighting way).

Her best friend is a Bullmastiff puppy, that is a few months older than her. She also gets along well (after about the 3rd meeting) with my Mom's Bishon.

I'm still waiting to have her meet a boxer her own age. I'm sure she would love another dog that played just like she does. Part of me wants another boxer already!

we want to get another boxer sooooo badly.other dogs just dont play the same as little vegas plays,we get so excited when theres another boxer at the dog park for him to play with.i find some dogs are intimidated by him even tho hes only 4 1/2 months old.but we just dont have the space as we live in a condo :(
vegas still does get along really well with all other breeds(that hes encountered at the park-so far)and my moms shetland sheepdog and yorkie love him.

My Boxers know a few huskies and they get along well :) . But, there is a huge difference in the breeds character wise (as well as needs, coat maintenance etc). All being well, your Boxer will probably become good friends with any new addition to the family, so maybe the decision should come down to how the humans will get along with a husky?

Have fun with choosing :)

Jackson's two best play mates are an Alaskan Malamute and a Husky and they get on like a house on fire.

Jackson was only 3 months old when we introduced him to these dogs and they were just so gentle with him (considering their size). In particular the Malamute was a lot more gentle then the Husky.

I agree with Kritkit, both the Malamute and Husky are high maintenance dogs in terms of their coats.

I'm not sure about Alaskan Mal. but my Boxer Breeder did warn me that German Shepards dont tend to be a good match with Boxers and I have heard its the same with huskys... its not that the boxer would mind.. its that the Other breed WOULD... German sheps and huskeys often dont like teh way a boxer plays "boxes" ... my breeder did say that if the German Shep or Husky is raised with a boxer from a young age there dosnt seem to be as many problems... make sure to research the Alask. Mal. to make sure THEY are compatible with other dogs and possibly ask some god rept. breeders to see what their experiences were like... this is obviously not always true.. but she warmed me becuz my aunt had a german shep that we visit often and this was during teh time i was going to get a pup from her.

I am no kind of expert on this subject-----All I have is my personal opinion on this one. We have had boxers for a long time now, and the best combo that we have ever had has been the neutered male and spayed female boxer pairs. They have similar playing styles, grooming styles, etc. etc. Boxers just seem like they gravitate towards other Boxers, in the park, play groups etc. But---my daughter co-owns a Siberian Husky and every Wed. we are at conformation class with our two boxers and a room full of Siberian Husky's. The Siberians are Beautiful and they are so Dignified. They don't appreciate our boxers jumping on them or even around them too much. The Siberians seem like they are dignified and also very laid back kind of dogs. If there is too much horse play the Siberians seem like they kind of get panicked. Now I've never owned a Siberian, so I might be talking crazy talk------but this just seems to be what I have observed. My son DOES hope to own one someday! But I can not take the hair on the Siberians---------When my daughter grooms them for the shows, it looks like it is snowing hair. Sibes must be brushed a lot! When they blow coat, you can pull out Fist Fulls of hair. Anytime, You can pull out fist fulls of hair on them. After classes with the Siberians we frequently are pulling hair out of eyes, noses, hair just seems to fly thru the air. Also, the Siberian breeder, tells us that Sibes love to go out and HOWL, she frequently leaves them out at night, to prowl, howl etc. because it is cooler for them and they stay in in the air conditioning in the daytime. I hope I haven't made any Sibe owners mad--------Don't get me wrong, Siberian husky's are Beautiful-----But too much work for me Cudos to the Sibe breeders there is mucho grooming involved!
