I think I'm confused on my boxer colors

I know Zoe is a fawn. And I know what a brindle boxer looks like. A girl down my street has a boxer that I would call fawn but she says Sadie is a brindle. Sadie is like a chocolate brown color with a white chest. The only black on her is her muzzle and some hairs here and there on her ears. Now, I think Zoe has a reddish color to her, not the chocolate brown. I've heard of Mahoganey (sp) colored boxers but am not sure if this is a true color. Is it and is that what one of these 2 boxers are???

Technically, according to the various standards, there are really only 2 "true" colours, fawn (also known as red) & brindle with many varying shades of each.

From the American Standard
The colors are fawn and brindle. Fawn shades vary from light tan to mahogany. The brindle ranges from sparse but clearly defined black stripes on a fawn background, to such a heavy concentration of black striping that the essential fawn background color barely, although clearly, shows through (which may create the appearance of "reverse brindling").

From the Australian Standard
The permissible colours are fawn, brindle and fawn shades from light yellow to dark deer red. The brindle variety should have black stripes on a golden-yellow or red-brown background.

I've been told that Chewy is at the mahogany end of fawn. He is darker and redder than most boxers I meet. I've never seen a chocolate brown boxer other than a brindle. Are you sure that boxer isn't a reverse brindle? Do you have a picture?

I need to get a pic of Sadie & post it. I don't think she's dark enough to be a reverse. Aren't they mostly black with very little fawn showing? I'll try & get down to their house to get a pic.

Reverse brindles are just that....reversed. They are heavily striped and appear to be black with fawn stripes.

It only takes ONE stripe anywhere on the dog to make it a brindle. I've heard of some true brindles being registered as fawns because the 'stripe' was missed. Have your friend point out the stripe/s...maybe they're so few and faint you just didn't see them.
