It sounds like Tyson needs to go to the vet! Poor Tyson! :( I'm sending positive vibes your way.

Hey guys it's Austin, not Tyson. I set my alarm for 12:30 a.m. to give him another dose of Benadryl. Maybe that will help. He's ok when he's laying down but when he get up he starts shaking his head and flapping those ears! Is every 12 hours the normal dosing time for Benadryl? I've never had to give it before.

At the maximum they can have 1mg per pound, (most capsules are 25mg). So you gave 75mg for a 75lb dog which is the maximum for him and I think it is up to 3 times per day, or every 8 hours.

I think it's best to go with the least amount if and when possible. If he is sleeping at 12:30, continue to let him sleep and then give once he wakes up and shows signs of irritation. Which of course will just make for a rough night's sleep on your part....but with your Xanax you might not even hear the alarm!!! When hubby used to take that he wouldn't even know if the house was burning down around him.... I hope he feels better soon.

Thanks Susi. He weighs about 95 pounds so I guess he got a little less than he should. I just thought it would be best to keep it in his system so that's why I was gonna get up to give it to him. My xanax wore off a long time ago, which is ok cuz I wanna be able to hear him if he needs me. I think he's feeling better, tho, he's not shaking his head as much and just came out with his ball. Now he wants to play! I hope that's a good sign!

green tea

Green tea is another good thing for ears. It cleans them and acts as a natural anti-bacterial and anti-imflamatory. I just brew it as if I were going to drink it. Once it cools, you just use it to clean the ears. It also helps calm itching. Another thought.....it's possible that his ear could appear to be worse because he had been "messing" w/ it. I just thought of that because I am one of those people who will pick at a scab or rub my eyes if they itch. It only makes me worse and I do it even though I know better. Both of mine do the same types of things. I guess we all have a touch of O.C.D.! Hope things turn out okay!

Thanks for asking. Yes, Austin is feeling better today. I got up at midnight to give him another dose of benadryl and another one today at noon. He hasn't scratched his ear all day and is hardly shaking his head at all. So I'm hoping the worst is over. I was telling my neighbor about it and he thinks maybe Aus got stung by a bee or bitten by something. I'm just glad he's ok, I'm exhaused!
