Just a thought here.....Ever notice that people who are motivated and obsessed with money don't have pets??? Just an idea there!???

I have noticed that mainly men think this way in regards to how much money is spent and will it make any returns.
My own husband and his father are always looking at not only the cost of an item or animal but how it will make money further down the track.

I believe there are somethings in life that regardless of how much they cost, they should be in your life purely and simply for enjoyment and company.
I do believe pets would come into this catagory. ;)

Don't you wish that there was a way we could have stupid people neuterd to keep them from making more stupid people?

appicon Rachel I couldn't agree with you more! :D

But it is a sad thing to know that so many people out there view their pets as money making machines. I've heard so many "reasons" for wanting to "breed" their dogs. My least favorite is: "Oh, my dog has his AKC papers so I could charge more"

I try to speak to everyone I can when they bring up breeding but we can't reach everyone :(

Our dogs value has no measure. They were well worth all the money we spent on them and the only way they can "repay" us is to let us love them and be a part of our family! (And of course there's the bean dance! I love that!) Some people are so ignorant! I got the same remarks about Angel! When are you having puppies? Jeez! Some people!smashicon My furbabies are the best money I ever spent (and continue to spend )

Sashamom said it best too!:

I know someone about to get a female English bulldog puppy. AS she has searched for them and realized the astronomical price of Bulldogs, even from BYBs, she told me "it is too bad Moe is already neutered...we could have bred them...$1200 a pup would have gone a long way".

She is truly an animal lover, truly caring, but just DOESN'T GET IT! I just keep saying well he is, and there are SO many risks in breeding, ESCPECIALLY bulldogs who almost always need C-sections, I wouldn't want to risk your puppy.

I just kind of gave up.

When Im out with my dogs people always ask me the same thing. And Ive put alot of thought to it, my husband thought we should have at least one litter. But after rescueing my first boxer, who was a 46 pound male at 5 years old and was abandoned at quarters on post here due to a divorce, I stopped that thought. I could not even imagine what I would feel if one of my puppies ended up in a pound or abused, etc. Also when people ask I quickly point out the various boxer rescue organizations and what good-looking boxers they have for adoption, and how they too thought they would end up in wonderful homes. Plus if you dont have the time and education to do it right, then donts do it. Its a 24/7 job, from the impression I got from the breeder when I went to get my Noah. I get my moneys worth everytime I come home.

You know alot of people make these odd sometimes rude comments about our dogs(Boxers) and about breeding. I truly think they are just ignorant about breeding and the plight of homeless animals in this country. These comments that these people make give us as experienced dog owners a chance to educate.

Last week we had Bella at our Homes Sale's Office(we are building a house) and a woman was there also. She stated she used to breed and was wondering if we were going to breed Bella. I said she is from a BYB. She then again asked if I was going to breed her? What? Maybe she just wasn't listening... Anyway, her comments will give me an opportunity to discuss breeding ethics etc with her in the future!

Stay Strong!

Our furbabies are not here to make us money anymore than our "real" babies. I try to accept as a compliment when people say "you should breed Tessa she is so beautiful "- but always feel the need to explain about puppy mills and backyard breeders.
Tess's mom was bred for 8 yrs straight!
Personally I feel all dogs should be neutered and breeders should be limited to how many times/often they should breed - especially females. But the I guess these dogs "usefulness" would disapear even faster....:(

All we can do is support rescues - and neuter/spay programs.
People think I am crazy because we catch the barn cats and "fix" them:rolleyes:
