I remember wearing long underwear or long pants under my dresses to greet my brothers at the school bus...needless to say they paid me a nickel a day not to greet the bus!
I remember bee hive hairdos.
I remember oxford shirts with the fruit loop on the back.
I remember and wore the awful saddleshoes.
I remember drinking raw milk fresh from the cows after it was cooled in a tank.
I remember the milkcans and having to strain milk.
I remember my grandparents NASH and the other grandparents having an Edsel.
I remember my uncles 57 Chevy and how he looked like Elvis when he drove it.
I remember being the first in our neighborhood to have a color tv and the all the neighbors would come to watch Sunday nite tv with us. We started with Walt Disney, then Bonanza. Everyone just wanted to see the NBC peacock spread it feathers of color.
How bout Have gun will travel?
I also remember our phone number. GLadsone 3449. We could call our party line just by dialing the last 4 numbers otherwise we went thru the operator.
I guess I have dated myself...O well those were the good old days!

I still blue my whites, it was cause the bleaching turns things yellow. I have a couple pair of navy blue socks that I toss one in my white clothes when I bleach. :) Keeps the whites white not yellow. ;)

Thanks so much guys, there were loads of stuff that I had forgotten....

fag tags! no seatbelts, pre-Mcdonalds, pre-microwave, pre-remote, pre-cell phone.

Some of the younger people that I work with ask me what cartoons I used to watch on saturday, And all I could remember watching were the ones that came on between 5am and 8am......cause we were escaping outside as soon as mom would let us (she had a strict no bugging the neighbors until 8am rule ;) that I never understood till now ;) ) Playing outside till the streetlights came on.

I also remember trick or treating with the neighborhood kids and no parents. Riding your bikes everywhere, Shawn Cassidy lovicon , I remember building forts, working out our issues without parent involvment, I remember playing tag in the front lawn on warm summer nights, eating homemade ice cream and hanging out with the neighbors and their kids till 9pm :D I remember it being normal that mom was always home and didnt work, but dad never was home. I remember the saying "wait until your father comes home" actually struck fear into us. I remember all 5 of us getting a whipping for something one of us did, ;) so that we would watch each other, sneaky mom!
I remember station wagons and taking long trips stretched out in the back, waiting for a trucker to drive by so we could get him to blow the horn

I wonder what my son is going to remember when he is older? and my fondest wish is that he remembers his childhood with such happiness as I remember mine :)

Oh, oh, oh...I remember the A&W when you parked, ordered through a speaker, and a waitress (on rollerskates) would bring your meal to your car and hook the tray onto your car window!!
I also remember the 10 o'clock (pm) whistle blowing at the Domtar plant meaning it was curfew and anyone under the age of 16 had to be inside. The police would actually bring you home if you were caught outside past 10!

I remember being able to walk down to the 7-Eleven with my best friend when we were 11 to get Jolly Rancher sticks and Grape Slurpees.

I remember being able to wait at the airport with your relatives, actually at the gate and watch the planes come in.

I remember being able to go to school without having to walk through a metal detetctor.

I remember:

The major STD of the time was Herpes.

Wearing those metal roller skates that fastened to your shoes.

Air conditioning was a privilege - my house growing up and the cars my parents had never had AC.

Major entertainment was going to either the drive-in (which I still do on weekends) or going to a roller rink.

The only video game we played at home was Pong.

I remember eating a whole box of Jello-O Pudding Pops because they were the best thing ever! Haven't seen a box of those in the stores for years.

I remember not only Beta Max, but also those huge disc things they had too.

My mother had a Vega - the muffler fell off and traumatized me forever. To this day I have a phobia of mufflers falling off cars.

To keep kids in line at school they used the threat of making you go to the principal's office to get paddled, and it would go on your permanent record.

Having my mother put those pink, soft curlers in my hair at night for special occasions.

Having to watch the original Star Wars sitting on the floor of the movie theater because it was jam packed.

I also remember the tv playing the National Anthem and then going off air during the night.

Making sure to be home early enough on Saturday evenings to watch The Muppet Show.

The Sound of Music and The Wizard of Oz on tv was considered big events and worthy of popcorn and staying up late.

Neighbors passing out homemade popcorn balls at Halloween..and not having to have it x-rayed.

Tylenol Capsules discontinued because someone tampered with a bottle somewhere and killed someone.

Being able to stay out until dark at home, but at the same time having to cling to my mother at the mall because we were told by teachers and tv that we were going to get kidnapped like Adam Walsh.

Having chores and that was the only way to earn my allowance.

Having a Dorothy Hamil (sp?) hair cut. AARGH!

I remember when ciggarettes were .75 cents a pack. We never had seat belts. You wrode in the back of your dads pick up, no problem. If you were racin around town in your car, or the 5-0 thought you were up to something, they'd stop you and tell you to knock it off, ( small town) . I remember sitting on my Grammas front porch snappin beans :) I remember the 4:30 whistle blowin every night, rain or shine, all of us kids would run home to get ready for supper. I remember going down to the firestation and sitting in the front seat pretending to drive. I remember people seemed to be "better" neighbors, they helped one another, they made food when someone was sick ( I still do that) the world seemed smaller cause it was. You knew every person in the grocery store or convenience store, not so much anymore. I remember my Mom givin me a look that would stop a truck on ice, boy you didn't say boo after that look, now, kids will tell you where to go and how long it will take you to get there. Very different, Im 40, Im all of a sudden feelin 60 :(

I just want to say that this is a fantastic thread! I love it....!!!

At times reading, I've felt old.... and at times reading, I've felt young...

I guess I'm a little of both (I'm 32)! Life really is pretty cool when you sit back and look at how far you've come, and where you've been.

This is really fun... keep em coming! :)

when our tv remote consisted of a power button, one volume button and one channel button

when at midnight, MTV used to play rock only videos
