I never Really Noticed.

It might just be me, but I can never tell the size of Diesel, my 7 month old. It got put in perspective on Easter, had dinner with the family, and Maisy was there my brothers 3 year old boxer. Maisy is a cutie, maybe 45 lbs. Last time they were together was Christmas, and they were close to the same size. Now there's a noticable difference. I guess I don't think about him being a bigger dog, since the only dog we see normally is a Great Dane when walking.

Has this happened to anyone else? There aren't many dogs out yet, the weather still sucks here to get him around more dogs, but reading on this site. He sounds too big too young. 7 months, 26 1/2 in, and 75.5 lbs. Still looks thin too me, and hasn't filled out much, which I understand he won't for a while. Just curious I guess.

I really never notice how big Mya really is until I see her at obedience school when someone else is working with her and I have their dog. She is 8 months and 51 pounds

I've got no idea if that's typical or not, just growing with my first dog in many years. And mine is just a 14 week old. I'll have him back to the vets this week to finish his vaccinations, etc. Mine's underweight I'm sure, but he's been having some problems with loose stools, and also (and possibly related) with what my vet feels is colitus.

But 75 lbs at 7 months? wow - that seems big. I'd think a dog wouldn't fill out till at least a year old. My neighbors have an 18 month old Rotty which seems HUGE - it's solid - and they claim he's about 90 lbs. They think he's got some more filling out to do. Do you remember your dogs weight at previous months? I'm kinda curious what his progression has been like!

Kreg it didn't hit me until he was next to Maisy. we got him at 9 week, and we try to goto the vet every month just to check his weight. Best I can remember it looks like this.
9 weeks - 20 lbs
12 weeks - 29 lbs
16 weeks - 51 lbs
5 months - 66 lbs
6 months - 74.6 lbs
right around 7 months - 75.5 lbs.
the only picture of him I have posted is from early November so maybe 10 weeks. He's slowed down on adding weight over the last few months. I guess he just hit a growth spurt really young.

Sounds a little big. I also agree with Krag that he shouldn't fill out till about a year. Our female is a tiny 52lbs and our male is only 4 months old and about 25 lbs (we'll see at the vet tomorrow). What are you feeding him? Nestle (our girl) gained a bit too much weight last summer and we didn't notice it until we ran into another boxer. I would stick to kibble if you are feeding him table food.

he was on puppy chow, it's what he was on when we picked him up. He just eats kibble. the only people food was turkey at Thanksgiving, and cheese when he has to take a pill. I'm just thinking it was a small litter. He came from a litter of 3 males. I think its just in his genetics. His dad & uncle from the same litter are 85 mom is 70, and his 2 brothers are right about 65 lbs @ 6 months. I keep in contact with the breeder, they are also a family friend, to see how his brothers are doing, since they are both out of state with family members.

Just to be sure he is just a big boy, I would call the vet and just ask or see if you can swing buy and have him/her take a look to be sure Diesel is perfectly healthy. As long as his little waist goes in and he has curves, he is probably fine. You should be able to see his muscles as well.

He was in 2 weeks ago to get fixed, had his blood and stool samples tested too. The vet seems to think he's in good health good disposition, test were all negative. He's started leaning out in the last month, becoming more define. But he is a lot of legs, and big paws.

Sounds like you just have a big boy. Bet he is going to take over the WHOLE bed. haha. Summer is coming and he is sure to get tons of exercise. I would keep an eye out but not worry too much. If he is getting chunky, you would notice it. Gotta post some new picts of your big boy.

Sirus just turned 2 in January...and still looks super thin to me. We just went to the vet and he told me that he still has a lot of growing (filling out) to do. Which I already knew...I think they all grow at their own rates...just like the skin kids!
