I did a search and read quite a few posts, but haven't found what I'm looking for.
I have had my 12 week old puppy home for two days.
Problem #1 His breeder had him crated with his litter mates... the crate was raised off the floor with a pan underneith and the puppies were allowed to "use the bathroom" in the crate... I think they also used her floor.
Anyway, Luka does not understand that he is suposed to go outside. I take him out every 30 minutes or so- he loves going outside. We go out after eating, playing, sleeping, etc. and stay out 10-15 minutes. He eats leaves, smells dirt and attacks bushes, but shows NO sign of going outside. About 5 minutes after we get inside, he goes.
I have puppy pads in the place he's decided he likes (near the kitchen), but he doesn't like them at all and is now going beside the.
I pick him up and move him outside or to the pads, but he just jumps around.
He knows "No", his name and walks on a leash good. He's even good in his crate... but uses the bathroom there.
Any help would be SO apprecieted. He is not treat driven- could care less. In fact, hasn't eaten much since he got home... just wants to jump and run.
An I expecting too much? I know there will be a few accidents, but he just doesn't get it.

Well he's REAL young. :) Also 30 minutes for his age may not be long enough or try keeping him outside a bit longer. When dogs go to the bathroom in one spot they can still smell it after it's been cleaned unless it's been super cleaned with stuff specifically to remove pet odors. They're drawn to those spots. Puppies should go outside RIGHT after playing, drinking, eating or taking a nap. And I mean RIGHT away. Doing this will let the pooch go when his bladder is stimulated or awoken and he should go in the house less. We kept taking Porter to the same spot in the yard (a far corner) and he got used to going there. His crate may also be too big. If he has enough room to stand up and walk around that gives him too much area to pee/poop in. If it's just big enough for him to lay down and shift positions (you can block part of it of with sanded plywood or something) then he is less likely to go there b/c dogs don't like to 'mess' their 'dens'. Each of these things should help. Remember to always take him out after eating, drinking, playing or napping. Even if he doesn't look like he has to go. Another thing we did was this....as soon as Porter started to do pee or poop we'd say 'Go Ahead' and eventually he learned that as a command! If he had to go anyway lol. If we were walking and he was sniffing too much we'd say Go Ahead and he knew it was time to get down to business. Looking back we should have picked something else to say though. Any word/phrase works as long as you and everyone that takes him out is consistent. Hope that helps!!! Good luck and can't wait to see pics!!!

That's a good sugestion. I'll have to try that. I'm glad you pointed out that he is real young... I know, I try to keep that in mind. A fellow friend that has dogs thought I was expecting too much. I am using Nature's Miracle.
I think as soon as I can get him to go once outside, he will pick it up... it's like he just doesn't get the connection. He even saw another dog going this morning.
We go to the same spot. I'm just hoping he gets the hang of it soon! I am taking a week off begining tomorrow, so hopefully we can work on it.

I just had a thought!! When it's raining Porter will walk outside, feel the rain, grumble a bit and try to get right back inside instead of going to the bathroom. LOL I love to watch it he gets so grumpy. Reminds me of when he felt his first rainstorm as a puppy....he did the same thing. If I remember correctly he peed in the house that night out of spite b/c of the rain hehe.

Good Luck!!!

Oh I hear Nature's Miracle is great!! I haven't tried it yet though do you recommend it?

It seems Luka has an excellent memory, remembering where he went last... and he goes where he spends most of his time (inbetween the kitchen and livning room), so I'm not sure I recommend it LOL. But I'm sure it works well :)
I'm sure he'll figure out the outside thing and then it'll rain! That's one reason I didn't mind using the puppy pads too much... but it seems he doesn't get them either!
It's too bad, he is a pretty well behaved puppy in all other things. It's so hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel!

Oh no kidding!! That light seems so far away sometimes that it makes you wonder if you did the right thing in getting a pup....but in the end None of us would ever trade it!!!! Pee all over or not. LOL
Have fun reading these posts. Some of the stories on here about the dogs have me rolling on the floor sometimes!!! This place and the members have also given so much support and kindness.....Welcome to BW! :) :) :)
Hope the pee-escapade works out lol

Thanks for the help and the welcome :)

Having adopted a rescue, I can't provide potty training hints, but I do want to suggest a couple alternatives to Nature's Miracle. It's good stuff, but I find it expensive. I have some Simple Solution on hand--bought it at Petsmart. It's very similar to NM. Also, I have used white vinegar mixed with hot water in equal parts. It seems to do the job well.

Good luck with your little guy!

2 days and your are expecting waaaaay too much waaaay too soon. This is just a pup.

First, don't let the dog roam around and be destracted when going out to do business. He's there to do business and nothing else. I've written several posts on proper housetraining and you should easily find them in a search using my username. Take the dog on leash to the same spot and don't allow him to become destracted. If he doesn't do his business, take him back in and keep him leashed and tethered to you so you can take him back out the moment he shows signs he needs to go.

The first thing, however, you need to learn about housebreaking is patience and guidance. If you can't learn that, your dog will never be housebroken.
