There was a huge black and white tick on my dog's toenail. Has anyone ever had this happen before. On a toenail???

His entire toenail was covered in dried up crusty blood. Yuck.

I was so proud of him for sitting patiently while I removed it. Luckily I had just bought a set of tick tweezers from Petsmart b/c my mother's dog gets ticks pretty often, even though we treat him (and Max) monthly with Frontline for fleas and ticks.

All I have to say is EEW.

Oh ew! I'm so glad we don't have ticks around here, but I used to live in SC and had to get hair-checked for 'em every time I came back in from playing.

What a good boy Max was!!

Gross...:( you poor thing and what a patient sweet puppy to let you do what you needed to take that mean yucky tick off. I pray I never have to do that. My stomach isn't the strongest even though I have skin kids.

That's It! Roxy, Ruckus pack your bags! We are moving to Texas!! You are all going to laugh at me about this, but when I was a little girl, I was paralyzed by a tick. It wasn't lyme disease or anything like that, it was tick paralysis. And, according to my doctor, I'm one of the few HUMAN cases recorded. It happened when I was 5 years old, one afternoon that I had been rolling in the yard with our boxers. It was just one tick and it was on my head, right underneath my ponytail holder. I was paralyzed and in the hospital for I think ?3? days. I'm not scared too bad of ticks, but I am careful to make sure I get them off.

I don't think I've ever heard of a tick attaching to a toenail, but I certainly think it would be possible. Poor guy, good boy waiting to get that nasty tick off your paw.

How do you know if your dog has ticks/fleas? I check my dog's skin often, but never find anything. He scratches, but, doesn't scratch constantly.

Get him to roll over and look round his butt! If he has fleas, you'll see them. Ticks are common in eastern Australia, we check regularly. You have to look in the ears and the jowls then rub your hands over the whole body. Apparently a tick feels like a small lump. Then check between the toes and inside the paws. Ticks like to hide in hard to access places.

The dog wiggs out!!!

My sister has a dog who actully freaks out from a tick. She will pull one off and show it to him between her fingers. He will shake his head and his eyes get big he will start foaming at the mouth and snorting. I have never seen a dog act like that before him. Poor dog looks as if he will have a heart attack.

Sounds like I am moving to Texas as well, I hate ticks. I have never heard of tick attaching to a toenail.

I haven't either, but good thing it was in a very visible place. I live in SC and thank goodness Calla hasn't gotten any on her this summer. I hate getting them off of our other dog (stays outside) and I would be scared of Calla getting a disease. EEEKKK-glad you found it!
