my bf wants to go on vacation next year to florida for a week...i told him i dont think i can leave sinbad and sierra for a week.i really dont think i can..i have never been away from sinbad for an extended amount of time.my bf and i went to kentucky last year but left on sat. and back on sunday night.i missed sinbad alot...also sinbad has never been in a kennel, sierra i have only had for about 2 months now, i got her from a rescue site.i know this is going to cause problems between me and my bf because he wants to go so bad..but i cant help how i feel...we have had words over my babies anyway because he feels he has to compete with them for my attention..which i do tend to put them first...i was just wondering if anybody else suffers from this also... dora

Ohhhh Yes. I can't live without my babies. We plan every vacation with them. I had to travel for work and it took me a month to prepare for it. I have EXTREME separation anxiety. I am more worried that they will miss me. I'm so glad I don't have real kids otherwise they would grow up very neurotic  .

I feel the same way. We want to go to England to visit my sister next year but I don't know if I can leave Layla for over 2 weeks. I really don't know what to do either. I really can't see it happening. I totally know where your coming from...

We're having the same problem around here too ! I started planning our spring break vacation (We have two school-age skin kids) and then it hit me like a ton of bricks--I would have to leave Keno behind if we left for vacation ! Oh no, I cannot be away from him that long..I would worry my self sick ! Plus I'm a SAHM, so Keno nor Daisy ever have to be left in their cage for any length of time and are used to being able to go in & out as they please...the thought of leaving them in a kennel makes me just sick, so that's out of the question...so....most likely we'll be staying home for spring break this year :(

There are a couple of options for you. One, see if you can bring your babies with you. There are many pet-friendly hotels and restaurants now, and more that are becoming that way as businesses recognize how important our pets are to us. Two, see if you can find a trusted friend or family member who will stay with your babies while you're away.

I travel for work, and it's a necessity, so I've had to get used to leaving Toffee. It's not easy, don't get me wrong, but I've found a solution that works for me--she stays with my retired parents and gets tons of attention. I know she's being well taken care of and lavished with love.

That said, I think you should try to find a solution that will work for all of you. Vacations are important for your own well-being--everyone needs a break from the daily grind, and if you have the opportunity to go somewhere, you should take it if possible.

OMG...that's me! Yesterday my daughters and I went out to run some errands and out for pizza. While we were eating, I told the girls I could not wait to get home to see the boys! Then the girls and I were planning on driving to AZ in December to attend the Tempe Art Festival. We were going to stay at my parents house. When I told my Mom this morning, she said she didn't want me to bring Joe because she is afraid that Joe will scratch her cabinets. I told her he is so big that when he jumps up he hits the countertops and not the doors! Needless to say, I told her we won't be coming if the boys are not welcome! Boy, was she shocked!

I agree, vacations are important...but not everyone has the option of leaving them (furbabies) with a trusted friend or family member...I ,for one, do not have that option as my parents still work and all of my family members do too...and I wouldn't trust them with just anyone so friends are out of the question too ! I could leave them with my dad but he has two big cats who are spoiled rotten and would not get along with our dogs at all...I know a lot of people leave their animals in a kennel, but I can't do that because it would kill me to know that they had to stay in their cage for the majority of the time...not to mention the fact that so many animals come home sick after being left there....nor would taking them with us be a possibility because we have a mid size car and two kids..I couldn't imagine taking them in the car 1000 miles...that might not be so bad if we had a mini van or large SUV, but in a mid size car it just wouldn't work ! =( I guess there's always the option of renting a van or SUV and finding a hotel that is pet friendly...otherwise we'll be staying home because how fun could a vacation be if you're worrying and missing your furbabies the whole time !! ;)

My dad was shocked the first time, however they got over it. I told them from the beginning, if they don't go neither do I. Finally they realized my fur-babies are just that...my babies, family and they will not be left out.

Now, my mom buys them toys (just like her skin grand kids) and even secured a place at the cemetary in the family spot.

I rarely go out of town for work and when I do It's not easy. I think it affects me more than it does them. I try not to be away for more than two nights (mainly because it kills me :( )

I am the same way! I hate to leave Asia in the crate to go anywhere! Mark says I'm nuts but that's okay because he does it *unknowingly* too! Whenever I go home for the weekend to visit friends and family (a five hour drive), my friends always ask me when I will come by myself and not with Asia or Mark! I gave the same answer every one of you did - no Asia, no Haley! :)
