I know that I am not a vet and I am not of any authority when it comes to boxer medicine however, every night when we gave Tyson 0.6cc of ivermectin for his demodex I felt like we were doing him an injustice! We as parents made an arbitrary decision to take him off the ivermectin completely. We have changed both our kids to hollistic 100% human grade food with 100% human grade treats (execpt for the occaisional yucky which they love so much) and seameal! I hope that we are making the right decision. I have noticed in just a week that his runny stool is now soft! his coat is slightly softer, but I think it is to soon to tell!!

I don't think we will get rid of ALL medications, I want them to be proteced from heart worm etc. the basics you know BUT the ivemectin was getting to be a little much and we couldn't get his runny stool to stop! THAT is a sign something is wrong! You know the worst part about it is he would sit right there like a good boy and take his medicine he never fought us at all!

I am glad that you are happy with your decison to stop the Ivermectin. When Reznor was about nine months, he had demodex. The vet wanted to start him on the Ivermectin and also do some dips. He already had a weak immune system and we knew that these treatments would only make hime worse. We decided to do everything we could to boost his system and it worked. We also stopped using any checicals on him and now focus more on holistic care. He is now 2 1/2 and doing well. Both of our Boxers recently picked up sarcoptic mange from somewhere!?!?! and we are also treating that without poison. They are doing very well, just a little itchy! There are so many other options than giving them poison. Good luck.

Boxer Booster
We are in the middle (hopefully past the middle...) of treating demodex...my vet does not want to give dips or ivormectin (spell?) we just have a topical cream. It seems to be working just very slow... what are the natural treatments? I am curious if we should switch or maybe for the future...

That being said Tyson had terrible deomdex from the stress of the SPCA and losing his family and being a puppy on his own in the streets etc. The SPCA dipped we used ivermectin through our vet! I began to question this when I spoke with a hollistic vet who said that IAMS was not a good dog food like the vet had said! The first thing I did was switch both of my dogs on to a hollistic food called wellness This made a huge difference in gas from the get go also there was no more playing at dinner time!! We have also seen a difference in the poop and the amount of food being eaten! Next I spoke with a woman about Solid Gold products, she recommended seameal which I was skeptical at first but there is a post here from me that thells the results any way while the seameal is expensive let me tell you Tysons wirey(sp?) fur is now becoming softer by the day and his bald spots are slowly filling in! We give seameal to our little one who is a specimine(SP?) of beaytu her self including poop fur etc. We also rub the bad spots with olive oil after brushing to make the skin softer and less dry!
