I didn't get the job

Last week I applied for a part time job in my kid's school office. 10 hours a week, just general clerical.

Anyway, they just advertised it on the school newsletter and had 5 applicants. I had an interview yesterday which I thought went very well.

However, I didn't get the job - the lady who got it has just undergone a complete re-training/back to work program.

I wasn't too disappointed as I am not desperate for the money or anything (£5 per hour!) but it would have been nice to do a few hours a week.

Oh well - I'm not going to look for anything else now until the new year when Marissa will be full time at school - I think it will be easier to juggle the hours then.

Also - perhaps I should go on one of these re-training programs!

Hang in there. I have been appying for jobs for about a month now. I havent worked in 11 years, have had little training and I am having NO luck, lol. But i think it will happen when its ment too!

...pounding the pavement....aghhhh

I am also job hunting and have been for about two months...Recently I had a job interview at a Vet hospital-the interview went really well and I wanted this job so bad!!!! I didn't get it, and it put me into such a depression...The interviewer told me I pretty much had the job but then never called back...It was so frustrating and unfair. Well, anyway, I'm back poundin the pavement again...nothing so far...but I guess I just need to keep pluggin away...good luck to all of you and hang in there.... Jicksies

Good luck to all of you job seekers. I can remember years ago looking for jobs and pounding the pavement too. It is a horrible feeling when you apply so much and don't get any feed back. Makes you feel like there has to be something wrong with you or you would have found a job. On the other hand, I also worked in personnel and sometimes it is hard to choose between applicants. Life is not always fair.

My son is also looking for work and it seems right now no one is hiring. I hope the situation changes soon.

Best wishes to all the job seekers out there. This past April, after almost a year in a previous position, I began the hunt for more rewarding employment. One-hundred twenty-five resumes later, I came up with one telephone interview....and the HR rep wouldn't even return my phone calls.

About two months ago, my boss mentioned that she didn't have enough to keep me as busy as I would like, and offered my services elsewhere in the hospital. After a bit of mental anguish, and being told by our chief nurse that she wanted me to do risk management work (I cannot stand the attitudes of most Army nurses around here), I was finally detailed as an Admin Officer in department with no nurses. I love the job, as I am being exposed to many areas that I previously had little or no experiece in.

Again, Boomer and I send our best wishes to all on the job hunt.

Cheers,

Don't worry, I'm a great beleiver in fate.
It just wasn't meant to be, there will be the right job come along for you in time.

I got my present job by default, I was their no.2 choice!
Their no.1 choice stayed there 1 morning and then was gone!!
I have now been there for 5 1/2 years. 6 years this coming March.

So only another year or so to go and then it'll be the 7 yr itch:D

Keep going in your search and don't get disheartened
as you never know what oportunity is hiding round the corner:)

Best Wishes

Jobs...

Last year was a horrible work year for me. I left the law firm I had been at for 4 years to take a job at another firm with our former controller who was the CFO at the new firm. After about 4 months he (the CFO) left t become the CEO at another firm. Then he offered myself, the controller and the billing manager jobs at his new firm for WAY more money. After 2 weeks of negotiating and trying to make a decision all 3 of us decided to take the offer(s) and go to the new firm. That was in September. On December 15th the new firm announced that they were merging with another firm and we would all be out of a job on January 31st. UUUUUGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!

We had 6 weeks to find another job. It was horrible, we were all so stressed out. I contacted 7 different recruiters and was interviewing almost every day sometimes 2 or 3 in one day. Suprisingly I ended up having my choice of 4 offers and I still had 2 weeks before my time was up at the firm. I ended up taking the one that was closest to home (for less money) and I was able to negotiate a 2 week "vacation" between jobs.

The summer/fall is a bad time to be looking for work but with everything that has gone on in the country recently I have a feeling that jobs will be opening up as reservists are called to duty.

Good luck to everyone who is out there pounding the pavement.
