OK I have not been on here that much since I started working under my dog's trainer as her assistant, and things have been really busy...However I just wanted to share with everyone the joy and self satisfaction I felt this week when I transported 9 rescue dogs to new homes. None of them were Boxers, but that did not make a difference to me...I felt so good knowing that I helped these dogs to their new homes.
I transported 1 great dane, 1 choclate lab, 1 aussie shepard, 1 border collie, 1 cane corso, 1 fila , 1 border collie mix, 1 american eskimo poodle mix, and 1 pitbull....They were all such lovers!!!
I am also going to take in a dogo argentino mix who is deaf, and needs a foster home where he can learn his commands in sign language. I have never done this before, and with my trainers help I am already excited about it. He arrives tomorrow afternoon....If anyone can give me advise I would greatly appreciate it more then you know!! I hope I can help this little guy out..My understanding is I am his last chance....So I know I am doing a good thing!!! Wish me luck & again any info would be greatly appreciated!!!

That's great!!!

Try searching the forums for info on deaf dogs - I know I've seen people post links to at least one website with good information about working with deaf dogs.

That is wonderful. Helping out with the rescue dogs & best of luck with the new addition. I don't have any advice. Maybe Tulsa Dan can help you, his new Boxer is deaf & he is teaching him sign language with much success too. Kudos to you!

Lots of luck! What a great thing you are doing! I thought I did not see you around that much lately on the boards after I saw this post. What a great thing to take up your time though! Thanks so much on behalf of the doggies :D

Ok here is a little update on my rescue adventures for those of you intrested..the deaf dogo mix I was to get, well he found a forever home a 2 hours before I was to get him..the family that took him had a deaf boxer a few years ago and they wanted to give another deaf dog a home...Happy Days for the Dogo mix!!!
I was called yesterday morning at work by the woman who we work with out of the fila rescue, and said she was getting a 9 week old Female white boxer that was going to be put to sleep because no one wanted her. She was the only one left out of a litter of 13...I jumped at the chance, whne she said boxer I was like, ummmm yeah dont ask twice!!! She knows I have 2 and thought maybe I could place her or keep her...So now my foster comes Friday..I have friends wanting a boxer who may take her, if not I will probably keep her!!! LOL

Kudos to you! appicon appicon What a rewarding experience - thank you for sharing. I always appreciate hearing about the happy endings since there are so many unpleasant ones we hear/read about. I am glad all worked out for the Dogo mix and that you'll be taking the white boxer baby! How exciting - please keep us posted with her achievements when you get a spare minute - I'm sure you'll be busy as can be with her and your training.
