I am having a two level fusion on August 10th. I am so scared. I will be in the hospital about a week and then off work for about 6 months. I know Cyper will keep me company and Danny bought me a lap top to keep up with all that is going on at Boxer World. I am just really nervous for the surgery it's self and the longish recovery. On the plus side I can't wait to be painfree (or have less pain ) and enjoy my life more. My back problems have taken a little toll on Cypers waist line too. He has gotten a little chuncky in the last few months since I have been feeling pretty crappy. Anyways... I sure could use some of those great boxerworld prayers and thoughts! If any members have had back surgery you can pm me with stories or advice or anything that may have helped. Or anyone with after surgery advice. Thanks in advance! :)

Good luck with your surgery and recovery! I will keep you in my prayers. I can imagine how you are feeling now--I'd say some anxiety is normal right before surgery!!

I personally haven't had back surgery, but I know several people who have, and they feel so much better now!

Please keep us posted on how you are doing, since you will have a laptop!!!

Jess: You will be in my thoughts & prayers. Sending you speedy healing vibes once the operation is over. I don't have any advice. My hubby suffers with a herniated disc & did physical therapy last year for 3 months which helped him greatly but ever now & then it does act up. I definately understand the pain. I certainly hope you are pain free soon. So glad to hear you have a laptop. Take care.

Jess my sister-in-law had back surgery 4 weeks ago. She had a herniated disc and pieces of bone fragment floating in her spinal column. Also something with the sciatic nerve where she was in constant pain. Unlike you she only spent one night in the hospital, and she said the surgery really wasn't that bad. I don't know what yours will entail. She's out of work until Sept. 13th, and they just came back from a trip to Mexico on Sat. Needless to say she has had to take it easy-no lifting or anything.
Sending you positive healing vibes that it will go easy for you and you'll be feeling better in no time.

been there!

I know what your going through. I had cervical fusion in 2000. It only took 6 months after my car accident to loose total use of my left arm and the back of my head was numb. I could'nt remember things from one minute to the next. The surgery was very scary for me because I had little support. Found out I was allergic to morphine! I was down for a year and a half. Just trying to get strong enough to go back to fire fighting and EMS. I thought I would never get back to normal. It's been 4 year's and I feel great. I have a lot of back pain but refuse to go through all that again! It's a hazard of my job I guess. Also something I've decided to just live with. I still have memory loss and bouts of forgetfulness but I'm a totally new person since the accident. Figured somebody was trying to tell me something, especially since I was very lucky to only have "minor" injuries. Good luck and know that you have a lot of people keeping you in their prayers. It will be tuff but you can do it!

Been there . . .

Hey Jess!!

Not sure what a level 2 fusion is but I can share my story/experience with you! Two years ago, I had 9 vertebrae fused together. I had major scoleosis. I have almost a ten inch scar (not as bad/noticeable as I thought it would be though). The surgery went well, and I actually healed at a rapid rate. I swam after three weeks, but I think the pain medication helped me through it ha ha. I was in the hospital for about a week and a half, it was tough.
There will be pain as you know, but you will get through it. What you need to stay focused on is how much better off you will be. I was disappointed b/c after still 6 months, I had new pain - surgery pain! But, by about a year I started to notice that I wasn't in pain all of the time. In the past I just lived with it and became so accustomed to it! Now, I will have pain here and there but nothing like before. I am so grateful for the surgery and having the courage to go through it. So hang tight, you will do fine, recover fast and hopefully feel better than you ever have before - it will just take some time.
Please take care of yourself and keep us updated.

I will keep you in my thoughts!
