With our last boxer Hooligan who was a dark brindle I was used to people constantly mistaking him for a Pit Bull, but now with Finnegan who is white people are constantly asking me if he is an American Bull Dog. This drives me nuts. smashicon And I just wondered if other White Boxer owners ran into this also, is it because they are white?

I know Finn is not the best bred boxer in the world; his muzzle is a bit longer than it should be, but he is still all boxer. I am now just realizing how few people know that white boxers exist I have even run into other boxer owners who were unsure. Its kind or irritating, but its also an opportunity to educate people. People are horrified when I tell them about culling whites. I think I am going to put a sign on Finnegan saying “I am a boxer”.
:D

My new baby - Maggie - is also poorly bred and has a long snout. I got asked the other day if she was a baby great dane. But, she actually kind of looks like one, so I wasn't too bothered by it.

That snout is taking some getting used to! One of my favorite things about boxers is that cute squished up face - but, the "long snouts" need love to! :p Poor Maggie. She can't help it that she looks funny.

How funny..

we have a white American bulldog down the street from us that I have been thinking was a boxer for about 2 months. I can only see it from the road. So one day I went to talk to the guy and he told me it was the Am Bulldog.

I did the opposite LOL. I swear though this dog looks like a boxer. The really funny thing is that his next door neighbor DOES have a white boxer, but i have spoken to her before. There are a lot of boxers in our neighborhood I am discovering.

Yep! Get used to it, it never ends;) With Buddy, I get the American bulldog thing all the time, along with pit bull (alot), and one lady even asked me if he was a french bulldog (see Athlon on the front page:p ). He's adorable, but please, Buddy doesn't look anything like him  And then when they find out he's really a boxer, they're in shock, and tell me how they've never seen a white one, and am I sure he's a boxer??? I've often thought about putting a sign on him too! It is definitely a great chance to educate people. They can't believe it when I tell them about the white boxers' story. But I like it much better when they ask, rather than walking by and saying to whoever they're with "There's a pit bull"! That really burns me up. Then I have to turn around and shout out "No he's not, he's a boxer"!!!! Just ask, don't assume:p

I have had people mistake Jade for a pitbull before. In fact, I was a the park one time and this grandmother and grandchildren were there also. The grandmother was warning her kids off to not go near Jade like she had the plague.
On the other hand, I have mistaken a White Boxer as an American Bulldog before. I was so embarassed, and Jade wouldn't talk to me for days :D

Elmo must be from the same bloodline. He has a different muzzle. He doesn't have the tilt of the nose that boxers have. When I walk him alone people recognize him as a boxer. But if Tyra is with us they compare them and ask if he is mixed. Tyra looks much closer to standard than he does. I laugh and tell my family we will have to break all the mirrors in the house so that Elmo doesn't see himself and question his own pedigree.

Our previous boxer was white, Shiner, and we had a few people ask if she was an American Bulldog. She was 100% boxer and exhibited all of the behaviors that we post about on this website. (Sure do miss her!)

Previous to Shiner, my brother had a white pit bull/boxer mix. I have been told that an American Boxer is a pit bull/boxer mix, but I am not sure. All that I can say is he was a terrific dog. My brother found him at the beach and he turned out to be a famous dog in the neighborhood...everybody loved him. When folks asked if he was an American Bulldog (we weren't sure), we usually replied that he was a human. It is scary how human that dog was.

Recently, our current brindle boy Cuatro was mistaken for a pit bull. The woman was actually scared of him. I don't understand why she thought he was a pit bull - he looks completely boxer to me.
