Friends, you may remember my rant about my next door neighbors who just moved in and have 4 Rottweilers that they keep in the back yard 24/7. WELL...being the nosy person I am...I hopped on the internet to check out the public records website of my local law enforcement... foundicon

To make a long story short...turns out its a guy (31 yrs old) living there with his mom. He is in the process of getting a divorce (all the documents were right there online for me to look at! ) and his soon-to-be-ex-wife is demanding child support (you go girl!) and charging him with "gross neglect of duty". NO KIDDING! Not only does he NOT take care if his dogs...he doesn't take care of his KIDS either!

You'd be SHOCKED at the stuff thats "public record". rulesicon In just about 20 minutes online, I found out his name, social security number, where he works (both jobs), saw a copy of his LATEST PAY CHECK STUBS, what he pays for his car, his motorcycle, his SATELLITE TV! I found out when they were married, where, when their children were born, THEIR social security numbers...its kinda scary. Good thing I use my power for GOOD angelicon instead of EVIL! evilicon

Here's the KICKER...under "other expenses" he listed $100 a month for "vet care". CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT?? I can guarantee those are four dogs who have NEVER SEEN a vet!

I'm half-tempted to contact his ex-wife and ask her if there's anything I can do to help her get the $501 a month in child support she's asking for.....make him responsible for SOMETHING!

What web-site did you go too..... and did you get all this info for free, or did you have to pay a fee?
It's kind of scary that you can get all this information on-line

Okay that scares me that you can just go out there and get all of that info in just a matter of minutes. Is NOTHING private any more?

Don't get me wrong I am sure that there are times when it may be a neccessary evil, but....it still is scary that nothing in our lives are private.

Not all of that is a matter of "public record", at least not here in California it's not. The only thing that is publc record is anything that a municipality officiates, such as; birth certificates, social security numbers, marriage, death, divorce records and legal proceedings. The other stuff must have come off of his credit report. Financial information is usually only released with the individual's permission.

Bad dog owner or not, I think he deserves his privacy and to be left alone with anything not having to do with his dogs. If the dogs are barking, causing a nuissance and/or if he has more than the dogs allowed for his dwelling unit, contact animal control and keep contacting them until they get tired of coming out, then they will have no choice but to enfore the law.

Kindra....I started out here ... http://www.pac-info.com/

and for the record...I totally agree that much of the information I found should NOT be public record. I would S*IT if I knew that someone could not only get my social security number (which is how a lot of people get their "identity" stolen) but could also get my bank account numbers, how much I'm paid..etc etc.

I had no idea that I'd even FIND anything on him...I just punched his name into the database and there he was. Truthfully, he leads such an odd life (now I know he has 2 jobs...that's why he's never home) that I was checking to see if he was some kind of scary convict. (I read a post on here today about someone finding out their neighbor is a sexual offender)

Its just me being careful of who I have living next door!

I totally agree.

That is alot of information to be online. I know moving from CA to AZ the laws changed, California has a lot of internet privacy laws that other states don't have. I was surprised when I moved here and the local telephone service sold all my information to solicitors and my phone range for a month straight!!!

Really, this guy may be bad, but it is unfair to post all that kind of information online like that. Arizona has the same thing, minus the credit information.

It would be easy to steal someone's identity? Luckily Deb, you use your power for good instead of evil!! :D

What is the problem there if people know your bank account number or social security number? It's common in France to give a bank account number and there is nothing people can do with it except sending money to that account :)

With a SSN and a birthday, someone can steal your identity by going to a local Dept. of Motor Vehicles and obtaining an ID in that person's name.

I don't think you can use anyone's account number, but if I had someone's check with their name, address, checking and routing number, I could order things online - just like a credit card.

Someone stole my husband's idenity and he got a ticket for speeding sent to our house; we had to contact the DMV and go to court. Luckily, it was easy for us to prove it wasn't him.

There is no picture in your SSN? How can you check someone's identity without a picture?
Here an ID card is a card that mentions your name, your date of birth and the location of your birth, your home address and it has your picture. You have to renew it every 10 years or every time you change your address.

Yes, but that's like a credit card number as you wrote. I am pretty sure people can not use someone's bank account number expect sending money to it ;)
