I took him to OSU vet ER to have the lump checked out, there was no way I was getting any sleep until he saw a dr. Stiil have to wait on Pathology to read the slides but the dr gave a probable diagnosis of soft tissue sarcoma. She said she saw a lot of 'spindles' on the slide and that's an indicator of this type of cancer. I can't believe I have any tears left to cry but I'm still crying. He's my best friend, and I know he's 8 but I need him around for a lot longer. I have to call at 6am to schedule an appt with the Oncologist. I feel like the worst Boxer mom ever that this large a mass was on his elbow and I didn't notice it sooner. :(

Will keep you updated.

So sorry to hear about the cancer diagnosis.
You will be in GREAT hands at OSU. They have a wonderful team of oncologists. We have been there so many times I think they should name a cancer wing after Cami!
I will give you some insider info though.....be prepared to WAIT a long time. Our first visit with oncology for a consultation took over 9 hours. They are quite thorough and due to this they are s-l-o-w. In the end it is well worth it but just wanted you to be aware. Hopefully you get in on a day that they are moving a little quicker! Typically they want the dogs dropped off between 7:30 and 9:00 am. If you are signed in FIRST things will go a little quicker however the students see the dogs first as oncology docs don't start seeing patients until 9am.
I have a thing about leaving my girl so I always wait!

I am so sorry about your Hugo. My Cyrus was diagnosed with cancer in September and I know exactly what you are going through, the anxiety, the sadness, the worry, and the helpless feeling. I cried for a week, and I still cry often wondering if my baby will make it through this. I will keep you and your Hugo in my thoughts and prayers! I know what you mean, no matter what age they are, we want them around as long as possible.

Our girl Sophie had a spindle cell sarcoma about the size of a ping pong ball on her wrist area. She had it removed and had no chemo or anything and did well for 2 1/2 more years, then it came back in the same place. We had it removed again, and this time it was smaller. She did well for another 1 1/2years until she passed away at the age of 10 1/2 from an enlarged heart which had nothing to do with the cancer.

I cried like crazy too. The first time it was removed the vet said it would probably come back in a few years and to catch it early, which we did.

I hope this helps to ease your fears a little. Just because it's a cancerous tumor doesn't mean it will all turn out bad.

Take care and try not to worry that much.

I'm sorry to hear about Hugo having cancer. I know it is hard not to cry, but think positively. Until you talk to the oncologist you're just running different scenerios in your head. Once you have more info, you'll be able to assess the situation better. Besides it's Christmas, the season of miracles! We're hoping a miracle for Hugo!
