My female is very hyper, and she licks everything she can get in contact with her tongue. She goes absolutly nuts when you come home which is understandable, but she licks your hands, licks your pants, licks everything and anything constantly. My male doesn't really do that. Anything to do to curb that?

Forgot to add, it is so bad when my wife come home from work (she works for a 5 star Spa as a Supervisor) She literally has to jump out of her work clothes as fast as she can, and avoid Athena so she won't lick her all over. Its pretty bad.

Lily licks things too, especially when we are scratching her neck......anything within reach is lickable then.

I can sympathize with your wife a little.......can't ever use hand lotion around any 3 of my pups. They will lick it all off! It's gotta taste nasty but not a millimeter of skin left unlicked. Strange.....

You need to teach them the "off" command. You need to say it before they start as in when they coming in for the lick. :) If they usually start with the hands you could try covering your hands with something that tastes nasty, like Bitter Apple. You need to be consistent in the no licking. It's not fair to let them lick you sometimes, but not others. They really don't understand when you are wearing good clothes and when you aren't.

Both our girls love to lick but instead of just saying no no no all the time when they were puppies when they were licking us we started praising them saying "kisses, kisses" and so now its just another command for them and we don't get any kisses unless we ask for them (well, most of the time!)

Kissing us has become a reward. We, too, ask for "kisses" and get them very readily. When we are done, then "No Kisses" command comes in to play. With the staffie, it's "No Licks" for some reason, she doesn't understand the "kiss" command. Our boy mix isn't much of a kisser, so when you do get any, it's a really big deal!

the only way i could stop the excess licking from my little guy would be to trade him in for a different breed of dog,and that will never happen,,,,,,
