I would suggest you start right away.

You can get him used to wearing a collar by putting one on when you feed him so that he is distracted.

You can practice walking with him on the lead just up and down your sitting room. Don't forget to give him a treat.

You can also start basic commands like, sit, stay and lie down now using treats as a reward.

5 mins at a time is plenty if your pup is still tiny, but it is never too early to start.

Good luck

We started simple commands with Harley the first week he was with us. Of course we didn't work him hard at all, just simple stuff like watch me, sit, easy stuff like that. And of course lots of goodies (all positive training). It should be fun for the puppy (as well as for you), don't try to rush through commands (a puppies attention span can be less than a millisecond - at least Harley's was at that age):D .
Another thing you could start working on is bite inhibition. Harley's teeth were like little needles and we were able to save a few pairs of socks by practicing this at an early age.;)

Good luck training your puppy.....
And don't forget to have fun :)

Now is a good time:D You can start teaching right now the basic commands and leash training slowly, start by just putting on a baby collar so he gets used to that, then you can attach the leash and start walking with him in the house. Take advantage of the fact a puppy will most likely want to follow you to teach him to walk with you (also good for teaching him to come to you).
To get him in a sit, lure him with a treat by letting him sniff it and then slowly bringing it over his head. His butt will automatically hit the ground, say sit and praise with a treat.

This link from the puppy page is great.

Of course afterwards when he is a bit older enroll in a puppy class they are great!

Have fun and good luck,

Catherine and Gazou:)
