How much does your boxer eat?

Got into a discussion at the dog park with other boxer owners about how much a boxer eats. Seems to be a big variance from one to another. I know boxers range in size from appx. 50 - 100 lbs but even other owners with dogs similar in size to mine eat less.

I feed my 2 Nutro Natural Choice Lamb and Rice formula dry as Rocky has some food allergies. I don't know how much each of them eat individually as they share a bowl and self feed. I do know that together they eat 20 lbs of food per week. Neither of them is overweight - Rocky weighs 85 lbs at 2 1/2 yrs old and Lucy weights 55 lbs at 10 months.

How big is your boxer, male or female and how much of what type of food do they eat? I don't think we have a problem I am just curious.

That's 40 pounds in 2 weeks for 2 dogs, that does seem like a lot. I went through 40 pounds in a month of Nutro when I had 2 Boxers.

Now I am feeding a Dane and 2 Boxers. Male Boxer is probably 70 pounds, female Boxer is 41 pounds and they both get 2 cups in the a.m. and 2 cups in the p.m. of Diamond Maint. The Dane of course gets twice that...he's "small" at 120 pounds!

Boomer is 4 months old and he weighs about 30 pounds. He gets 1 1/2 cups in the morning He used to get more but he would only finish about a cup) Then in the evening he gets between about 2 1/2 cups. He ususally get a scoop of yougurt in each. We stopped feeding him three times a day because he wouldnt eat his second feeding. He would push the food around the kitchen and play with it.

I just made the switch over to Innova. The recommended amount is 2.3 cups daily. Both of my boxers are between 50-60lbs and they gobble up every drop up plus look for more. So I've upped it to 1c in the morning, 1/2 c lunch, 1c for supper and 1/2c in the evening. They still act like they're starving. But everyone keeps telling me you'd rather have and underweight boxer than overweight one. It's been nice weather out and they spend most of the day out running/playing. This might be why their sooo hungry all the time. Back to the subject, that's what I feed.

My 75lbs 15month old eats 2 cups in the morning and 2 cups in the evening with 3-4 treats through out the day and is pretty thin and always looking for more. My 60lbs 2 yr old eats half that (1 cup in am/pm) and is getting sort of full in the middle.

I feed Gregory Nutro Natural Choice for large breed puppy (dogs that get over 50 pounds is large breed for Nutro...go figure). He is 4 months old weighs about 26-30 pounds and he eats 2 cups in the morning and 2 cups in the evening dry. I think he looks just fine. You can see his muscles, but you can't see his ribs (other than the normal outline). Vet says he is right on and looks wonderful. I think it is important to remember you have to adjust water and food intake based on your dogs activity level.

Good Question! I've always wondered if Layla was eating enough. She is 20 months old and around 48-50lbs. We just switched from Wellness to Canidae (getting picky) and I feed her around one to one and a half cups twice a day. Sometimes she'll only eat once a day and other times she'll eat twice. (her choice) I also add missing link to her food everyday. She looks good for her size, no ribs showing and muscular. So I guess its the right amount for her. I should add she gets too many treats throughout the day!

Darien weighs about 68 lbs. and he get 2 cups of pro plan in the morning with a little bit of moist food (moist and meaty I think) and then two cups of plain pro plan in the evening. I used to think that was a lot but he is such an active dog that he seems to burn it all off.

When my boxer Pringle (70lb) was alive, he would eat a 1kg tin of chappie a day plus the entire contents of our fridge if he still felt hungry.... doh!!!.

He couldnt be filled, if you gave him ten dinners he would polish them off & still look for more and yes, he was wormed regular, its just he didnt know the word "full"
Usually after all that he would come up to me and belch right in my face.........bliss!

Kirra is 6 months and weighs about 33 lbs. I feed her Wellness and homecooking. For breakfast she gets 1 1/2 c. dry and a little canned, lunch she chooses not to eat anymore. Dinner she gets 1 1/2 c. dry with 1 cup chicken/veggie stew. She also gets a biscuit, roll over and kong in AM and at night she gets a couple biscuits in her kong ball. She is a very active little girl.
