how much does microchipping hurt?

We had Cooper chipped while he was under for his Neuter, but Dillon got chipped totally awake. They did take him into the back to do it because they say it hurts the mommy more to watch than it does the dog. I didn't even hear a whimper out of him. The place where the shot went in did look like he got shot with a BB gun or something, but he didn't even seem to notice. I was the one going, OMG look at that hole! He just gave me a nub wiggle and off we went.

Hello, we have had Maverick chipped and the have to put them under. We had it done the same time that the cut his ears. It was real quick. It does not hurt them, but they do have to be put under general for like 10 minutes. It is very safe. you cant even tell that they put it in. Hope this helps.

Although I can't remember how much my vet charged to microchip Leeloo, I can remember very clearly that there was also a registration fee that you pay when you send your information to the microchip company. In my case it was about $17.00. It's very important to send your registration/contact information in to the company after the chip is implanted - that's the info they use to get in touch with an owner after a lost dog is found and scanned and that's what makes the chip so effective. Without registration, even with a microchip, the only information they may get from a scan is that the chip in question was issued to a particular vet.
Also, as far as microchipping hurting, Leeloo got chipped when she had her regular shots and she didn't even seem to notice! I was quite surprised.

I had my boys done at the local shelter for $15 and it was an additional $17.50 to register nation wide. My Dozer never flinched when he had it done. He never minded shots either. My Diesel is a crybaby and yelps at shots. He flipped out over his microchip and yelped for over 2 minutes after it was done. He also bled quite a bit too. :( I still would do it again knowing that though. At least he has a better chance of being returned to me if he gets lost.

my basil got chipped yesterday- she just squirmed, no noises! - she did had a little hole and a spot of blood, i cant imagine it hurtiing anymore than piercing your ears. as for price, it was 15 $ to register her- i am friends with a breeder who does chipping, so i only payed for parts, haha-

She let out a cry and then was "over it" and ready to play and lick the vet.


I wouldn't worry too much. It's over very quickly.
