Drake eats about 3 cups a day of Nutro Ultra and has freeze dried liver treats during training sessions. He is 14 months and weighs 60 lbs. He is also VERY active and would love to eat lots more:)

Thanks guys...but I am also wondering how many treats you give per day. If I do 2 15 minute training sessions that can really add up. Do you give a treat for each thing they do right? I thought initially I should and then taper that off. That makes for lots of extras. Hmmmmm. Guess we'll see. Better get her on the scale. Trouble is...she IS still growing so I would hope the "extras", as long as they are good for her, go to the right places :)

They really don't need treats for everything they do, unless it is something new that they are learning. Once they have learned the behavior, you just need to randomly reward them. :) The one thing that you might want to always reward is the recall.

You should look at the recommended amount on which ever food you are feeding according to her current weight. As for treats I like to get soft treats that I can break into very small pieces and train her with those. In a dogs mind they would rather get 10 tiny pieces of a treat rather than one large treat.

That's what we do.

As for food; I'm feeding Nutro. Baxter weighs 63 pounds 4 years old. He gets 1 can and 2 cups a day. He's way too skinny and I'd feed him more if he'd eat it. The puppy is 14 weeks 18 pounds and eats 1/2 can and 1 cup a day. I break up the food in 2 feedings a day. I'm going to be switching to Fromm when my current supply of Nutro runs out as I am not real happy with it.

We just switched to feeding Lucky Nature's Variety Raw patties, and he is getting 3-4 a day, which is 1.5-2 lbs of food a day. This seems like a lot, because he has been sick, and is very underweight, so we are trying to add weight to him. Once that has stabilized, he will be getting 2 or 2.5 patties a day which is about a pound.

I feed Berta Innova 4 cups /day plas boiled beef or chicken everyday as a rule, plus she is getting 3-4 dry chicken breast(its really halves of chicken breast),but her weight is normal, she is almost 15month,around 60 pounds, but every morning she runs with 4 other dogs for 1 hour, and then have 2 more 1hour walk(half run) everyday, You can see 4-5 her ribs.

posts like this make me wonder if I'm underfeeding Champ. This seems like an awful lot, without offense.
Champ is 7 mos. old, about 40 lbs and eats 2 1/2 c. per day. I was feeding Innova Evo, found out it's too high in protein and now swtiching to timberwolf...and the feeinding guideline is still about the same. He gets a few Mother hubbards throughout the day, as well as his morning kong when I go to work, which is normally a combination of all or any of PB, cheese, apples, bananas....

Geez! Duchess sounds like a cow compared to everyone elses Boxers!! She gets Innova Evo, 2 cups in the morning, and 2 cups in the evening..... She is also getting training treats on top of this!! This is maintaining the weight she is at currently which is a healthy 60 lbs.... She could even stand to gain about 2-3 lbs. People often comment on how skinny she looks.
