How much do you feed your boxer?

I have recently acquired an 11 month old and am wondering what others of this age are fed (in cups, for the whole day total). Please include how many treats per day. I really don't want to make my beautiful girl fat but she acts like she is starving :) LOL.

Thanks so much!

I think a huuuuuge part of it depends on what brand of food you are feeding your dog. In my particular case, my adult female eats 2 cups per day of Innova EVO right now.

She also gets a few healthy training treats throughout the day. But if I fed her based on how hungry she looked or acted LOL, she would weigh over 100 pounds and would be grossly fat ;)

It really depends on what you are feeding. On all bags there is a guide of how many cups per day to feed, (aacording to weight and/or age) that is the main guideline to go by and then see how your pup is doing and adjust accordingly. In Killian's case (he is 68 lbs and almost 9 yrs old) he is eating Wellness fish and sweet potato right now, he gets a little over two cups per day, fed twice a day. He gets a biscuit or two during the day and sometimes a bit of natural peaunt butter and then his yogurt with his evening meal. If you hadn't read about it yet, yogurt is great to help prevent gas and they love it too. :) If your pup acts like she is starving you could add a little more and see if that helps, but don't overdo it. Boxers are lean and you really don't want them to grow too fast.

Thanks Guys. My breeder instructed to feed 2 cups/day Eukanuba lamb and rice but I was wondering if that is enough since it is a low grade food. I am in the process of switching her over to Canidae. I wonder if I should still feed 2 cups of that, being a higher grade.

How old is your pup, and how much does he/she weigh? I would compare that to the feeding guidelines, versus listening to the breeder recommendations, personally.

Canidae's feeding guidelines are as follows:

Puppies (up to 6 months):
2-10 lbs = 1/2-1 1/2 cups per day
15-25 lbs = 1 1/2 cups per day
25-50 lbs = 2-4 cups per day

Adults (or those over 6 months):
15-25 lbs = 3/4-1 cup per day
25-50 lbs = 1-2 cups per day
50-75 lbs = 2-3 cups per day

:)

Ooops, I just realized you said you have an 11 month old. So in that case, she should probably be fed about 2 cups per day of Canidae, depending on her weight and activity level.

Good luck!

You know, I fed Tyson Wellness and he was eating a little over 4 cups a day. We have now switched to Timberwolf (both high grade foods) and he is still eating over 4 cups a day. He is not fat at all in fact I sometimes think he needs to pack on some wieght (he currently weighs 65 lb at 1yr). He does get alot of treats during the day too but healthy treats. The woman at our pet store is always amazed he eats so much and looks so good (he eats more than her 140 lb rotties!). He is active but I wouldn't say overly active. I think some dogs just have a higher metabolism than others. If you think she's still hungry give her a little more (maybe 1/2 cup a day) and watch too see if she's getting a little heavy then you know to cut back again. I would just hate to think that she may still be hungry and not getting enough.

Right now my rotation is Chicken Soup, we feed 3 1/2 - 4 cups a day. My Maggie is about 50 lbs and Buster is about 75 lbs... Buster is fairly active & Maggie is a nut !
