Boxer Pal
Hurricane probably weighted about that at 8 months. He is a year and a half now and weights about 80 pounds - all muscle! He is a horse and yet, he still thinks he is a lap dog! Happy Birthday!partyicon

Same with Diego. I'm pretty sure he weighed around 60# @ 8 mos. At 2, he's at 78/80# - lean and muscular ;)! i can relate to people freaking out when see your dog... It's amazing how quickly they grow!!! ~ Lisa

Bella was 48 lbs at 8 months and I thought that she big. She is realling been filling out more than gaining height in the last 3 months. I should really weigh her to see what she is now. She had really gotten thicker across her back and her head is finally getting bigger. Her neck is really filling out over the last 2 weeks. We bought her a new collar 2 weeks ago and I am noticing that I could losen it soon.

I am just in awe at how much he has grown. We were worried about him gaining weight at the beginning, he was only 6.5 lbs at about 9 weeks and now look at him.

Actually if you feel your puppy is growing to fast, the biggest culprit is probably the food you are feeding. Besides being a lesser quality kibble (do a search on this site on quality kibble to find out which ones are much better for your pup) it is a puppy formula.

Puppy formulas have extra nutrients to cause growth in muscles and bones and this is not healthy for a slowly maturing breed like boxers. It should take up to 2 years for your boxer to hit it's growth potential. The extra growth being stimulated by extra protein and calcium can lead to possible joint or muscle problems when they are older, due to the improper growth issues.

EricJ definately has a point. We switched Hammer over to Nutro Large Breed Adult Formula for this very reason and he LOVES it.

Sonny boy weighs almost 50lbs at 5 months. He is a monster and this is with me BARFing him. I can only imagine how big he would be if I kept him on the Nutro Puppy we started on!
