All four that we have had are from reputable breeders...........the first one, almost thirteen years ago, purely bull_ _ _ _ luck. Thank God we got a great breeder from day one, but if they were and I didnt know any better, I'd love em just the same, I know all of us here would and will :)

Yea, I absolutely know that all of us would love our babies no matter where they came from. But knowing that so many of the members on this board found their little guys from the scummy bybs, it is easy to see how they (bybs) are still going strong. We/people need more access to education about breeding. I am glad BW is here to help with that!

We bought Sam from a byb - before we knew anything about reputable breeders. That will never happen again. Our next baby will be a rescue. :)

Wilma was purchased from a BYB (sort of). This family had a male and female and let them have 2 litters. Both parents were papered and tested and when we picked her up, we got copies of all the vet bills and tests. This family seemed very responsible and Wilma's mom was spayed shortly after this litter. I felt they was responsible even thought they was technically BYBs. This family did not make much money on this litter after looking at the bills they paid. Looks as though they just recouped their expenses and a little.

Lily came from a byb (that I thought was reputable too) but now thanks to BW, our next will be from a reputable breeder.

I know Markus came from a good breeder.

I think it would have been a good idea to have two other options: Puppy mill ( I think much worse than a BYB) and an I don't know option.

Unfortunatly Puppy Mill....I had no idea what I was contributing too, I just saw a mooshy face that I fell in love with. From now on it's a rescue all the way!

This leads me to another question I wanted to post...Where are the pet stores? It seems, at least in St. Louis, MO that there are no more pet stores other than Petsmart and Petco. There are no more PassPets nor are there any other pets stores in our malls. QUOTE]

Just about every shopping mall has a pet store. They sell birds, hamsters, guinea pigs, tropical fish, reptiles, and dogs. The puppies are usually in cages behind a glass wall. You got the money, they'll sell you a puppy, no questions asked.

Most pet stores get their dogs from puppy mills, though some of the pups may come from backyard breeders. None of their pups come from responsible breeders, to my knowledge.

Most of the sales of "pet stores" are the pets, unlike Petsmart or Petco. Most of their sales are food, toys and supplies, though they do sell small critters such as birds, fish, mice, etc.

I did a search on BYB's on google and found some stuff. There is also what is known as a hoby breeder that I thought was very interesting. Alot like a regular breeder but not into it as much for the money as for the experiance of breeding. They will do all the required tests and such but only very limited breeding.

I can honestly see why people would go to a BYB though, I have seen reports of dogs costing close to 2000.00 from a "reputable" breeder!!! All I want is a companion and a member of the family. A price like that would put most purebred dogs so out of reach that it turns into an elitest group!!

We got Dakoda out of an ad in a paper. When we got to the house we werent going to go in because they looked pretty rough. Then we go outside and these pups were living like kings.

There was 9 in the litter and mum and pups looked so healthy, they even had grandma boxer there ( she woo-wooed when they played her a song) who they retired after one litter b'cos she had a bad pregnancy and they wouldnt risk her health again

We didnt get papers but we did get all her vet documents and our vet was extremly happy with how healthy she was. I now no the risk we took in getting our baby from a BYB. We are definatly more informed now and I hope next time (fingers crossed Jon agrees we can get another one!!) we will be able to find a reputable breeder.

Saying that, I wouldnt trade our little girl for anything.

Keeroff

Completely Boxer Crazy
Keeroff is from a byb and actually from an ignorant byb.... (i even doubt if he does it specially for the money. he has a male boxer and a female rescue boxer, maybe it was an accident or maybe he thought it is necessary for the dogs to breed... i dont know. and i guess since puppies came up he thought he should ask for some money as well... :/ im saying this because the price was much lower than other bybs', he could have asked more..)

however, a lot of people(including 2 vets) ask me if he is from a reputable breeder because his body is incredibly beautiful as they say.and i agree. maybe his parents were of good morphology.
as for the health problems... i dont know yet what will come up. the only problems presented so far are skin problems.but he is still too young to tell.
