Our seven year old white female died recently from renal failure. She was born with one working kidney. I am not sure if genetics or toxin caused her death. I have heard that renal failure is occurring more and more in boxers.

I have had 4 boxers over the years and lost three between ages 5-7. Tango is now 9 and as healthy as can be. My vet is amazed at him, given he is white they thought he had one strike against him already..BOY were they wrong hehe! I hope to have him many more years. I will say this once your dog reaches the age of 7(or 5 if you were like me and worried too much) please take him for a full exam every year to monitor his health. My vet does a full blood work up and everything. It's pricey but its a huge relief to me to know all is well and if something were to be going wrong it could be caught a lot quicker.

Whites have no more health problems typicaly than colored boxers. I don't understand the "one strike against him" comment.

I've heard they can live on average 10 years but have also known people to lose them very early (2-4 years) or very late (12-14 years) I hope my boys are on the latter end of the scale. ;)

Yes, I made them aware that the comment was incorrect I suppose I should have cleared that in my initial post now that I read it again it looked as if I agreed! No way do I agree with that comment. I even switched to a different vet in the same practice(this one has a white boxer too so he was very aware of the "idea's" about whites.) There are quite a few out there who think whites are more prone to different illness's and the like when in fact thats nothing more than a myth. Sorry if my post came across wrong!

Xan too......Buster will be the first forever living boxer and Xander will be the second! (then Bailey, obviously!) :( I don't want to miss my babies either........and I am getting sad just thinking about this. It will come, I know, but I dread the day.

Long live the Boxers

I hope all our boxers have a long healthy life. Tango's Mama, what happened to your other boxers. That is so sad. My white boxer is 3 1/2. So far he has been healthy. He has a skin problem occasionally, but that is not unusual. My 12 year old male is still alive and kicking. Just not high. His arthritis is getting to him-he moans and groans alot. My mama dog is 5 yr old and getting some gray and it bothers me as much as it would if it were my hair. I sure don't want to lose her.
She is a terrific guard dog and the mother of our 2 boy boxers. We lost our Savannah a few months back at the age of 9. She had cancer. That about broke my heart. I have been looking at her pictures tonight so I am feeling melancoly.

OUr vet was amazed but my husband had gotten a boxer in H.S. and he lived to be 16! Poor old man had no teeth and it pained him to walk when he finally crossed hte bridge but even in his last few days he couldnt have been more sweet and playful god bless him
