Thanks for the information.

I had picked out a pet catalog to purchase a seatbelt from for about $9. The web site listed about has a much nicer belt and I have already printed out the information to buy one.....

Isn't Boxerworld a great source of quality information???????smashicon

Well, since the rental companies have their own insurance, and they won't let me put in the barricade, he is only allowed to drive the rentals whilst on holiday. I have seen him drive (and he scares me when he gets distracted by a poodle being walked and starts driving on the sidewalk to get to her) so I prefer he not drive my cars anyway.

I came to think about this..

Today me and my boyfriend decided that it`s far too dangerous that Remus is freely in the back seat. If my boyfriend would have to hit the breaks suddenly, then Remus would go straight out the windshield :(

So from today on, Remus wears a harness that fastens to the seatbelt. We tried that today on our way to the training field, and he sat nicely behind be, and didn`t bounce at the back seat like he did before. So now we can drive safely, and don`t have to worry all the time :)

So thank you for being so "guiding" about it

Congrats to all of you that have seen the light from this thread and realized the dangers of allowing your furbabies to ride unrestrained in a car. Kailee is so happy to know that many furbabies will be safer because of her mishap, and mommies carelessness.

What kind of harness do you all use? I've seen these strange contraptions that look like they could strangle a fur baby. D. rides in the back seat, I have a "sling" that fits from front to the back seats (to protect the leather), so it would be difficult for him to be thrown--but not impossible. On short trips he sits with head out the window. The minute we hit the highway, he curls up and goes to sleep. I know that doesn't protect him if we get into an accident, though, so please tell me where I can get a restraint. I take D. everywhere!!!

Joey wears a harness....I tried just letting him free ride, but he is way to active and I'm afraid he'll get hurt if I have to stop fast. The harness allows him to stand, sit or lay down.

I just wanted an opinion since we are all on the subject of our babies in cars. Does anyone let them sit in the front passenger seat with the air bag there? I was letting Mandi do this and decided it might not be such a good idea because it does say about the danger of children sitting in the front. I know dogs aren't children but how do you judge the size and the strength of your dog? Just wanted your opinions on what you do?
Thanks

Whenever we take the dogs out for a car ride, we put them in the trunk.
No panick people: I have a Volswagen Golf and it is Hatch back! So they're in an open trunk!

Mollie is pretty still when we drive, but Oscar! My goodness! I never thought a dog could move so much in a car! So we restrain them to the back. And this weekend, the petstore near my house is supposed to have gotten that metal thing to put up in my car, not to allow the dogs to jump up on the back seat. I cannot wait to put it up, because just like you Jean, I'm afraid of them getting hurt or hurting us if we ever get in an accident.

Quick& funny one here: last week-end, we were taking the dogs out for the weekend with us at a couple's house. Oscar let out one of the most loud and smelly farts I had ever smelled and heard! We had to pull the car on the side of the highway and open all the windows up. We did not let the dogs out of course, but we waited for at least 10 minutes for the smell to go away! And thought it was so funny!!!!!!!!!!!:D
