How do you let your dog out?

Just wondering how everyone lets their dogs out? I have Brandi bell trained and sometimes its like Christmas here . I was thinking of installing a dog door for her to come and go as she pleases. I saw them on ebay but, am not sure what I have to do. Do I have to make a hole into my back door and install it there? Who on BW has dog doors?

We have dog door into the barn but not in and out of the house. I do not like the lack of control. This way I know when they are in they are in until I let them out.

Diesel and Lilly are bell trained. I've always thought about a dog door too, I'll be interested in the replys also.

They have a dog door that goes into their doggie palace, but not into my house. I have enough trouble with varmints getting in without a door to help them along.

We had a dog door in our old house in washington and we loved it. It went into the laundry room which then went into the kitchen so we could put a dog gate up in the kitchen and let them go back and forth while doing whatever. ours had a lock on it and when we were gone or at night we closed it for safety. Being in washington though the baby gate was needed they would dig into the mud then run in. Here we are installing one that leads to there dog run we built on the side of the yard so nothing but large river rock and dog houses no mud.... Yea!

I would never put a dog door in now. But as a child I had one for our 3 golden retrievers. Boxers are such an indoor breed that I don't think they need that freedom. If I wanted my girl to have access inside and out I'd just leave the door open for the amount of time I felt she needed. If you left a dog to there own free will then I sure they'll be going in and out all day long, but my neighborhood isn't set up for a roaming dog. To be honest unless you live on a farm or in the country I don't see how anyone would even let there dog outside with out proper supervision. I realize there are some really great dogs out there that can handle the responsibility, but if you had a 4-5 year old kid that was a really responsible would let him out to play with out supervision for any amount of time. Plus granting them access to the outside is just one more piece of leverage you have in NILF training and giving free access to it might make it lose some of the appeal. But maybe I'm just jealous because one I have a small yard and two I can barely trust my girl when I'm in the shower (JK).

I just periodically let her out for a little bit. If she kinda has to go, she'll whine a little bit. When I got home from visiting a friend in ICU today, she started barking like CRAZY the second I walked in the door... then led me to the back door so she could go out!

I don't think I could survive without the doggy door. Ours has a nice metal door that locks so if we want him to stay inside or don't want him coming inside. I don't let him out into an unfenced yard we keep him in the fenced in back yard. He is still getting used to going out but it makes it easier for everyone if he has the freedom to come and go outside.

We have a doggie door that leads to the garage and then a side door I leave open to the yard. They use that during the day if the skin kids don't have the back door standing wide open! . If both doors are closed they just sit and look out the back door patiently until someone notices them. Or if worse comes to worse they pee in the garage! :eek:

As it's summer my back door is constantly open during the day so they come in and out of the garden as they please
