Hey boxer lovers :) I'm new here this is my second post.
Anyway I was looking to get help on how I could get my boxers ears to look nice and sit next to his cheeks. I read an article that said to tape my dogs ears in half one inch from the bottom. Just to be clear I'm trying to change the "fly ears" look my dog has. He is currently 3months old and always has his ears up and to the side. Should I wait? Does anyone have a link to a site that could show me step by step directions. Any advice is appreciated
thanks!

My Cora's ears settled down as she got older. We never really did much when they were flying high. Try searching the forums for posts about massaging the ears - one alternative i've seen here to taping.

Alternative to the 2nd one is you can just use tape to tie the two ends together instead of a zip tie.

I haven't used either of these myself. Just something that came up on another forum I'm on and I saved for the future.

Massage works

I used to massage Caney's ears when she was a puppy, not with the intention of making them lay flat, but just because her ears were so soft and fun to play with :) and of course she enjoyed having them rubbed. She has the softest, floppiest ears of any boxer I've met -- not sure if that's simply genetic or if massage had a lot to do with it.

No point in waiting until he's older whether you choose to tape or massage. I think the earlier you start either one, and the longer you do it for, the better results you'll have.

Lily had those "Flying Nun" ears when she was younger and they constantly changed positions til she hit adulthood. I never massaged or taped them, had no idea it was even an option back then. But now, her ears seem as normal as any other dog. Is it even necessary? And if so, what would deem it necessary? Always wanted to know the silliest things here.

Well, Clemmy has 'fly away' ears. With the exception of the rare occasion when she manages to flip them inside out, they're set like that permanently. I can even fold her ears over so they're the proper set for a boxer and they just pop right back out. Her ears are a bit short, I think, and the cartilage feels a lot stronger then what I would expect and what experience has taught me a floppy eared dogs ears should feel like. The thing with Clemmy though is that she's from a really bad BYB. She doesn't actually have any pedigree papers but she looks pure, with the exception of her ears.

So, I guess it's just knowing your pup and the parents of your pups on determining whether or not you need to tape them.
