My Ruby Tuesday

I am a nurse-one of my favorite patients was a 95 year old lady named Ruby. I loved that name and it was short and quick-for training. Easy to make up goofy songs and sing to my sweet dog too!!

We're both big gangster movie fans and we thought he looked like Marlon Brando when he plays Don Corleone in the Godfather. We picked his name a year before we got him and thankfully when we eventually found him he looked like a Brando.

Otherwise we would have probably went for Bobby after the Newcastle United FC manager Bobby Robson.

Harley...

Davidson...the motorcycle of course!

I had a list of names, but when we found our little white one, Harley was the only name that fit.

Harley is Old English for Army Meadow. From the hare meadow. With a personality that is Rock-steady, in charge, aloof.

If he were ever registered I'd have named him Bodacious Harley... but its CKC and really who care, lol..

Bodacious means remarkable, prodigious and bold.

I might name my next Boxer Boadie.

Our 11 week old boxer is named Dempsey after Jack Dempsey to boxer from the 1920's. We considered Tyson, but didnt want the dog to carry all the baggage, or bite ears!!

Schroll's Fits of Rage
Schroll is the kennel name and I was supposed to use the mom or dad's name in some way, I didn't like See me Strut (mom) but did like Rage (dad), so I came up with Fits of Rage. IMO you have to have a call name that "fits" with the reg. name, and after going through lists and lists we decided on Fury.
I love naming new dogs, it is so fun! :)

Gunner was already named when he came into our lives.

Quinsi's full name is Equinsu-Ocha which comes from the movie Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls. While watching it one time and hearing someone call Ace Equinsu-Ocha and telling him that it meant "White Devil", I looked at my husband and said "That's it! When we get our white boxer, we're going to name him Equinsu-Ocha and call him Quinsi for short!" And so it became.. and boy is he ever a little devil!

Farley was the fattest little pup in his litter, and b/c of his coloring we kept trying to think of big, fat white guys or names that conveyed big-ness. We tried out things like Mac, Moose, etc. but none seemed to fit. I thought those names were too aggressive and/or dumb sounding. So, my BF's bro finally suggested Farley, after comedian Chris Farley, and that was it!

We met a dogue du Bordeaux at the park named Moose one day and I was soooo glad I convinced Andrew that was a bad idea. This guy was a huge, slobbery, clumbering thing (but really cute!)--definitely not things you could say about Farley.

I have always wanted a dog named Hadley, after Ernest Hemingway's 1st wife. She is a central figure in his A Moveable Feast, which is my fave Hem book. I like the idea of naming dogs after literary characters/authors b/c I am a nerd like that!

My husband & I both loved the Dukes of Hazard growing up. Our first boxer was named Duke. When he passed away we got ourselves a puppy and named him Bo. Our neighbors got an English Bulldog the day after we got Bo, and they named her Daisy (our sickness evidently rubbed off on them!!). I'm sure one day we'll have an Enis or a Boss Hog...but for now we are just going to enjoy Bo!!!

Joe was a rescue and he came with that name, and it totally fits him. We got Charlie from a family in the news paper and I had a friend whos dog Charlie was recently put down, so it was in his honor, and of course we liked the name. I look at Charlie sometimes and imagine him with a different name, and I just can't. They are definitely a Joe and Charlie..... : )

Cajun got his name because my boyfriend is originally from New Orleans. I thought it was a strong sounding name and it ended up really fitting his spicy personality! I want to get a female next and name her Cayenne. If we get a male, his name will be Bourbon =o) (gotta stick with either the spices or New Orleans theme!)
