The little Beagle mix we raised with our kids died soon after the last one left home. We were empty nesters and not actively looking for a new dog.
One day, just befor closing, a lady came in where I worked with a tiny black toy poodle, I was oohing and awing and snuggling and she was telling me that the puppy was available.
My husband came in to pick me up and saw what was going on. On the way home he told me about a litter of Boxers he knew about. We had recently moved to the country and instead of feeling free, I was nervous about walking on the roads instead of the city sidewalks I was used to. He said "I've heard they are really good dogs, scarey looking - you could go anywhere and no one would bother you." I did not like the whole idea, went to the library to research the breed. The librarian helped me, and I told her "I'm looking for a reason *NOT* to get one.
And she agreed with me! LOL.
A few days later, I let him take me over to see the litter, and he *sucked* me in.
We bonded so closely during her puppyhood, she liked to be rocked and would try to lay on top of my feet in the morning while I was at the sink, until I would sit with her, in my robe and rock her.
She is at the Rainbow Bridge now, waiting for me to come and rock her again. We have a male now, a big goofy guy - very laid back and sweet. They are just the best breed there is.
The title of your post "fallin love" is a good one, that is what happened.
