Hopefully, he won't learn how to spell!

Certain words- outside, ride, squirrels, bananas, apple, and treat (among others) drive Fibber into a frenzy of excitement. He runs around in circles, barking in Molly's face as if he's telling her what's going on! We've taken to spelling or using alternate phrases so he won't feel let down if it does not result in what he thinks it will. He is just so smart!

It won't make any difference what you do, they still understand what you mean! Isabelle sometimes comes up to me even before I have said a word to Gunther about having a game with her rubber ball, we play 'piggy in the middle' with her if it is wet outside, I haven't even picked up the ball from the top of her crate! It is frightening to think that they can read your mind.

Abby loooovvvves going to the barn. If we even say barn in passing she looks up, if we say it she goes crazy and if we are going nothing could be more important. You see her soccer ball is there to play and she can run and run like crazy. By the way, she is starting to recognize B-A-R-N spelled. We have to use different code if she isn't coming.

My Brandy knows when I am getting dressed to go to work, versus getting ready to go somewhere else. If I am off to work, she won't pay me any attention, but if I am getting ready to go to the store or something on the weekend, she is at the back door waiting for me to bring her along.
Wierd isn't it?

Ronin knows that when I get my purse out, I'm leaving the house. He proceeds to walk right into his crate (without a word from me) and then lays down. (we crate him when we're gone for an hour or so). He knows the words walk, cheese, food, squirrel, cat, rabbit and dog. He's also a total scent dog. I know that another dog has been in our yard because he'll pick up on that dog's scent , put his nose to the ground and follow the entire trail that the other dog made. Never owned a Boxer before that knew words or could track like that :)

Just yesterday I asked my daughter if she wanted to take the D-O-G-S's for a W-A-L-K!

Our puppy Boxer doesn't know what it means yet, but the older Chow does.

I thought how funny it was that I used to spell words so my kids wouldn't know what I was saying and now I'm doing it so that dogs won't know! And then it was pretty funny to read your posts about the very same thing. :)

Boomer is 4months and I have noticed that he knows certain words already. I cant say the word ride or school because he will then bring me his leash. Cookie, KONG, bed, nighty-night, walk, outside, and he knows all of our names and hes starting to learn my boyfriend's dogs name, if I say "Wanna go see Mic?" He gives me the face... you all know the one. It seems to say, "Lady I hope your not joking!"
PS- Also I have been teaching him sign language so if hes sleeping you can sign it to someone but watch out if he sees you sign cookie!

Yes, if the word entails anything Roxy knows she can be a part of, I have to spell it out. But she has learned ball and park spelled so I have to use other words. Bailey hasn't quite caught on yet.

Maybe Cisco has rocks for brains? I don't think he knows any words except just a few basic. (outside, come, sit, laydown) But I swear if my pom could talk I could carry on a conversation with her! That girl understands anything you say to her. She is 3 1/2 yrs and Cisco is only 10 months, so maybe there's hope for my baby yet!

Rocky has learned to spell P-A-R-K. We stopped saying park unless we are actually ready to get in the car and leave because he would get all wound up. Now even spelling the park gets him going. We are currently using DP to indicat the dog park but I am sure he will figure it out soon. What's next pig latin???
