Well, Friday on my way home from work I get a phone call from DH saying "Jake must have gotten loose and hit by a car, he's up the street at the blueprint shop under the owners car with blood on him and he won't come out". Can you believe some @$$ hit a dog and didn't stop? I'm still about 15 minutes away from home, so now I'm crying. DH calls back in about 2 minutes and says "I have him, meet me at XXX exit", because the 24 hour hospital is out where I am. I tell him to just meet me there, but he says no, he wants me to see him before we decide. I meet him at the exit and before I can say anything, he tells me to get in, we're going to the hospital. When I see him, I'm a little relieved because honestly, I've seen more blood after one of my skinkids soccer games. DH says when he climbed under the guys car to get him, he was just completely limp. I start looking him over and realize his gums and tongue are almost white, which scared me. I call ahead to the hospital and as soon as we get there he's whisked away and they tell us to register him and the doctor will be right out. 10 minutes later the doctor comes out to tell us that they have him on oxygen and they've given him morphine for the pain, but he's critical. He's critical and if he spends the night and doesn't require surgery we're looking at at least $800 with a $500 downpayment required before we go home, "what do you want us to do?". Of course we say, go treat him. They finally come back an hour later to tell us he has a small hole in his lung which they think will heal up on his own, but they're biggest concern is they can't see is bladder. If his bladder was full when he was hit, it may have ruptured and they are just going to wait and see so they don't do unnecessary surgery. They send us home and tell us to call if we have ANY questions. Well at about 4 am DH wakes me up to get the hospital number. Good news, he has urinated so the bladder isn't ruptured. By Saturday AM, he was much improved but stayed the day for observation. We got to bring him home Sunday AM! He's a little sore, but he has resumed being a wigglebutt, just a little slower wiggle. We're so happy he's home and he's gonna be fine.
