Hippo Dog???

Ok, on my walk yesterday i encounterd a BIG dog without a collar and was a bit apprehensive cuz it was so large. About three times the size of Lily my boxer. He was muscly, silver, with a medium size docked tail. Floppy ears. He was beautiful. He had a white patch on his chest similar to boxers. HIs muzzle was soft and very thick like a HIPPOPOTAMUS!! A little droopy and droopy eyes.

It looked really docile and kinda of shuffled along towards us and sniffed Lily. He didnt seem agressive at all. And he wasnt. I was shocked he was loose and without a collar and figured he must have lived nearby and the people just let him out to walk around himself. (I live in a very rural part of Hong Kong and you see this alot.)

Can anyone tell me what kind of dog he was??? I have never seen anything like him and i dont think he was any type of crossbreed. He reminded me of a hippo or a manatee!!!

now looking at a dog breed page, he looks similar to a cane corso mastiff. But not with cropped ears. COuld that be the mystery dog??

Frightening that it was loose since thats the kind that mauled and killed the woman in San Francisco.

However this dog was sweet as pudding.

Sounds like it might be a Neopoleon Mastiff or mixed with Neo Mastiff.
The dogs that mauled the woman in Cali were 2 half Presa Canarios and half unknowns.

YOu are correct!!! I looked up the photo on the internet for neopolitan mastiff and it looks just like him!!

The average mastiff is pretty laid back and lazy. I'd love to get one. There's a bull mastiff named Stone who comes into the kennel where I work to board a lot. He won't even get up to eat his food, he just lays next to the bowl. He's very cute.

Oh my God! That is a massive head!
We have a friend with 2 french mastiffs that we play with and they are big, but not that big! Even though I am a total dog lover I must admit, if that head were coming at me unleashed I just might freak out and run!

I do have the insane urge to hold that head in my hands just once! WOW!

what a beautiful dog. There is a English Mastiff that comes to our work sometimes- sweet as can be. But now I see that Neopolitan and I want one, but I have a feeling it would knock all 110# of me down in a heartbeat!!!Might lick me to death--ugh bet that's a LOT of drool.

When I read the description, the first thing I thought of was a Chinese Shar-pei!
