Boxer Pal
My name is Steve (Wife is Tammy) and we are from RI. We bought a 12 week old male Boxer on 3/26. We named him Chewy since my son is a major Star Wars fan and also when we first met him he started chewing on my jeans & shoes, playfully. I am 35 years old and this is my first dog, my wife had dogs in her childhood, but I was a cat person. So far things have been going both amazing and frustrating. He is a great puppy and bonded almost instantly to our two children who are 6 & 9 years old. All the stuff I have read about boxers is true; the affection he shows toward all of us after only 9 days is really blowing my mind. My wife is a stay at home Mom so they keep each other company, and she is able to work with him all day.
The way he needs to be close to us all the time is so different then cats, which is all I know. Thanks to all the information on this site we have read we have decided to crate train him for when we go out and at nights, so far things are going well but I will be happy when we get past the 1, 3 & 6AM wake up barks to go out.
I am looking forward to learning more from all of you and I would appreciate any quick tips you can offer. His nipping at socks and pants is the only real negative thing but he is learning not to bite. We understand that he is playing but hopefully that will pass soon. I do have one question. Today it is raining for the first time since we got him and when I brought him out this morning (3 & 6AM) he whined and pulled to go back in. It was really tough getting him to take care of business, he ended up peeing but a few minutes after I brought him back in he decided to poop and whined when I ran back out with him. Do boxers hate the rain? How about the snow?? Just wondering..
Regards,
Steve K
