My name is Steve (Wife is Tammy) and we are from RI. We bought a 12 week old male Boxer on 3/26. We named him Chewy since my son is a major Star Wars fan and also when we first met him he started chewing on my jeans & shoes, playfully. I am 35 years old and this is my first dog, my wife had dogs in her childhood, but I was a cat person. So far things have been going both amazing and frustrating. He is a great puppy and bonded almost instantly to our two children who are 6 & 9 years old. All the stuff I have read about boxers is true; the affection he shows toward all of us after only 9 days is really blowing my mind. My wife is a stay at home Mom so they keep each other company, and she is able to work with him all day.
The way he needs to be close to us all the time is so different then cats, which is all I know. Thanks to all the information on this site we have read we have decided to crate train him for when we go out and at nights, so far things are going well but I will be happy when we get past the 1, 3 & 6AM wake up barks to go out.

I am looking forward to learning more from all of you and I would appreciate any quick tips you can offer. His nipping at socks and pants is the only real negative thing but he is learning not to bite. We understand that he is playing but hopefully that will pass soon. I do have one question. Today it is raining for the first time since we got him and when I brought him out this morning (3 & 6AM) he whined and pulled to go back in. It was really tough getting him to take care of business, he ended up peeing but a few minutes after I brought him back in he decided to poop and whined when I ran back out with him. Do boxers hate the rain? How about the snow?? Just wondering..

Regards,

Steve K

Hi from Beantown

Hi Steve! Hello and welcome! Lots of great info, advice, and people here!

I'm in Boston - what a rainstorm this morning, huh? I took my newly adopted 4 YO boxergirl out this morning in the rain (first time), and she was fine with it, but then again, she isn't a puppy. We walked for a good 40 minutes together, stopping every once in a while for a good shake! Dried her off well when we got home, and she loved that. Probably felt like a massage!

I think it really depends on the dog. He may grow out of the dislike for it. Either way, I am sure you will find comfort in all the posts you will get here! We're all in this together! Enjoy the site and best of luck to you with your new pup!

Greetings! You will find lots of useful information here as well as friends.
LOL-most Boxers do hesitate when they see its raining-I usually have to give mine a slight nudge on the butt to get out the door. Snow is different-they tend to go crazy in it.

Howdy neighbor. Sending out welcomes from Me and my gang Echo and Carson from Connecticut.

Aren't Boxers just amazing with how much they want to be with their "people" one of the many endearing traits of our beautiful babies. Again, welcome aboard.

Welcome to BW! My Killian does not really like the rain much. He will go out if it is sprinkling but if it is raining hard, forget it... :) Just one of those things, I guess. Glad you have joined us and look forward to hearing more about your pup! :)

Hi and welcome to BW. Chewy is such a cool name, just wait until you hear him live up to his name. LOL. This is the best place to learn and share. Just remember the only silly question is the one Not asked. Wiggles from Kilbane.
