Ya I have only had Dimpsey for about three weeks now. And when we go on our daily walks we have gotten many pitbull remarks, people avoiding us, and the best was a guy with two pitbulls rolls up in his jeep why we are walking and asks "How old is your pit"? I was like wow. Don't insult my dog man. That is bad how can you mistake that. Thats like seeing a glass of orange juice on the table and asking, is that grape juice. Some people man. If you don't know, don't talk.smashicon

people are very funny the fact that they know more about our babies then we do!! noone has ever mistaken her for anything other than a boxer maybe because we have alot of them around the only thing they say is what happened to her tail? Um its cropped that is what they do when they are puppies people dont understand b/c alot of the boxers around her are from the pound so they have their tails intact... I just gave up trying to explain this to the lady, but then again she had a black lab with a white chest with little dalmation marks in it(i had one growing up dalmation/lab mix) she told me he was pure black lab....yeah ok sure he is.....lol

We have already gotten this a few times with Madison, but I sometimes wonder the same thing myself. Madison was a rescue and we know for sure that the guy that owned her parents also had a Pit. I'm not 100% sure if he even knew if her dad was the male Boxer or the Male Pit.

I do not know anything about Pit Bulls. I've read a lot about Boxers since we got Madison and she definitely fits all of the usual Boxer characteristics. But, when she gets excited, her ears go back and her droopy cheeks seem to disappear (especially when she has been running around and her tongue is hanging out). Also, when she lays on her back and starts to chew, her jaw looks like other Pit Bulls that I have seen.

Madison is the first Boxer that I have ever owned and is really the first Boxer that I have been around enough to notice these small things.

So basically, I am asking if your Boxers also do this or do you guys think Madison may be a mix? I really don't care if she is because we weren't trying to find a perfect Boxer, we were trying to save a life, but now that we have her, I have definitely become a huge fan of the Boxer breed.

Here is a link to some pictures of her:

Pictures Of Madison

The pictures are from 5 to 9 weeks old. She is 13 weeks old now and is much bigger.

Kimber & Mac

Super Boxer
looks like a boxer to me...

But then I don't know much. I have noticed though that when I look at Boxer mixes they tend to not look ANYTHING like boxers (is boxer a recessive gene?).

Mac does the same thing. His ears go back, nad he stretches his face out when he is running or excitred. Look at my gallery, I may have some pics of him on there doing it. But I saw both his parents and they are definitely boxers. But Mac was froma BYB and maybe he just isn't a well bred boxer. I don't know if the "good" ones get that look sometimes.

Either way, Madison is gorgeous, so it doesn't really matter!

I think.........

Madison looks like a purebread Boxer, Jersey does all the things you described Madison doing. Can I add Madison is totally adorable!! lovicon

Puppy aggression

People always think my puppies (Georgia and Griffen) are pit bulls. They look like classic boxers but they play really rough with each other and I think people just assume they are pitbulls.
You can never miss the smile of people who know what they are though :D

Well, I must admit.. Madison does look like maybe part Pitbull? The body shape looks more Pit than Boxer, but even if she's mixed.. it looks like 3/4ths Boxer. Could just be a look, too... as Boxers really do vary in appearance.

I've mentioned it a few times, but Boxers/Pits are a GREAT mix, so even if that's the case ... what a beautiful doggy! Great color! Sure has the boxer-puppy conehead going on! :)

I think Madison is purebred.
I have seen a few pit/boxer mixes. They don't look like our babies at all to me! In fact one I saw, I thought they were just saying there was boxer, to sound good. It was all pit IMHO.
