I've seen Boxers that do look more like Pits than others. My girl has more of a diamond shaped head than some. That may confuse some casual dog observers.

I rescued a Boxer/Pit mix. GREAT dog. I hated to give her away... but it was to a good home.

I've seen a few pit/box mixes. Great combo. Pits are Boxer-like in their raging love for their masters!

Oh wow! I thought the St Bernard remark was funny - but a greyhound??? That's the best yet!

I am also getting second guessed at every turn. My 12 Week old, Watson, seemingly has a longer snout than most Boxer's, so people always guess Pit. I have also had the St. Bernard comment due to his flashy marking. I saw both parents before choosing him and was completely sold on the line. Just last weekend, in PetsMart, someone commented that he was only "part" Boxer. I told him he was then only "part" accurate, because I know my Watson. He was pretty offended, guess I shouldn't have said that. Told him also to take good care of that Labrador (his dog was a Weimaraner) and continued shopping. I realize that sarcasm isn't the answer, however, it helps end conversations with those who are persistant in making their point, whether or not you wish to hear it.

I have only had the only comment "is that a pit bull". What I did get the other day as I was walking Diva in the park just about ready to let her loose was a comment by two women with a fox terrier and a chocolate lab and that was "isn't she the most beautiful dog, she is just beautiful. :D They then asked if she was a boxer and I said yes she is and we carried on with me grinning from ear to ear!

My two are the only boxers I have seen around where I live, so it was great that the lady got the breed right straight away

We get the same thing all the time too. Wherever I go with Rocco, to the gas station, pet store, 7-11, bank, walks, etc. we always get "oh, what a pretty dog. That's a pitbull right?" We haven't gotten people acting petrified because they thought he was a pit, yet. I agree though that the lines between some breeds have become fuzzy because of bad breeding. I mean, the one picture we have of our Rocco resembles my best friend's pit sometimes (they're similar colors and everything). But you can definitely see the difference between the breeds. I don't consider myself an expert on boxers or any breed for that matter, but I can tell one breed from the next. I don't know...

Samson just got his first pit bull comment today.
I took him to the vets today for his rabies shot, my sister was with me, anyway... while I was with him in the exam room, my sister waited in the waiting room with two women that were talking to each other about that ''Pit Bull". They thought my Sammy was a Pit. They went on to say " they (pits) can be mean''.
We didn't say anything and went on our way. After they left we were talking to a woman that works there, and she said "yea, I don't know how people always make that mistake". Then she went on to tell me about a chow puppy she use to have years ago, and she was out with her puppy when a neighbor said "I know that's my Pit bull you have" She was saying the chow was her Pit! Now thats bad, chows and pits look worlds apart! She had to call the cops to settle it. Some people smashicon

Funny, the first time I took my boy into Petsmart one of the workers called over two of the workers and was saying, "This is a Boxer. They don't look anything like Pit Bulls." She started explaining the differences in their appearances, such as their head shape and muzzle. I was impressed that she took the time out to point out the differences to the workers so that they wouldn't make that mistake.

I get that too My female is brindel and she's always confused with being a pit my male is fawn and doesn't get it as bad but there are alot of people breeding boxer/pits in my area, they even doc their tails and I tell you the boxer trait is so strong you'd never know!! That scares me to death the purpose is to create tougher dogs for fighting (pretty sick huh?) all of our pounds are filled with pit/boxers and people around here are so afraid of them they get put down all the time!!! My state will soon be banning pits as it is if you own a home and a pit you'll have a tough time getting insured!! It's pretty sad but they can be very dangerous animals!!!!

Kinda scary when you think these people get to vote and it counts just as much as yours does, isn't it?

Lots of people make a wide berth around us when I walk Scrapper. I just think a lot of folks are scared of dogs. They've all HEARD about those dangerous pitbulls; our babies look "menacing," so in their uneducated heads that means our dogs must be pits. Today, I was out on a walk and a little old lady who just stepped off the bus shrank visibly in size to avoid being anywhere near that scary, threatening coiled spring of a dog who was heelling nicely beside me.

But then again, when my hubby was out running with Scrapper later, another lady said, "Hey, that's a really good looking Boxer!" Yesssss! There is hope.....

Rocky, my brindle baby boy, got mistaken again for a mastiff. There must be a lot of mastiff lovers in Ohio.
