My husband and I were hiking with Junior at Minnehaha Falls (Minneapolis, MN) and we took Junior to the river to play in. This guy comes up and says "wow, what a beautiful great dane". Michael was like, "he's a Boxer". I just thought it was funny - how do you not know???

A lady brings a bulldog to the dog park I go to. He is the classic bulldog. Looks just like Uga (the U of Georgia mascot). Someone asked her what he was? Hmmm...lets see. Of course this was the same lady who came into the park and Mac and to other boxers ran to greet her and she yelled "How can they allow so many pitbulls in here!" I was offended, but then when she didwn't recognize a bulldog I decided shew as just dumb :) Anyway, these stories are funny. Don't they make you wonder?

Here's my theory..... and I may get 40 lashings with a wet noodle from a few people, but here goes anyway. There are so many dogs of every breed who come from poor breeding, (BYB, mills etc) that in the general public eye... they become the new standard. I have seen pits that do look similar to Boxers, and my mother has a Boston Terrier, (she has a "bad" head) and the dog looks like a pit puppy! So that's my theory.

I agree!

I hate to admit it, but I saw a PB book and the photo on the cover looked like a boxer to me (although not up to standard for a boxer). :p

I had a kid just last weekend say Bailey looked like Beethoven (the St. Bernard). I politely said I thought Beethoven was a little bigger than Bailey. ;)

But the funniest had to be the guy who asked me if Bailey was a Brittany!

I just think it's funny that if someone doesn't know, why do they guess? Just ask, "what breed is your dog?"

Yeah, and I do see some Boxers that do look like they are mixed with Pit (cause of the long nose). Awnd I had never heard of an American Bulldog before about 2 weeks ago, and wehn I saw it i thought it was a poorly bred boxer. It is confusing...but A BRITTANY??? Wow!

Gordson... i was in shock when they said that my girls looked like st. bernards...my jaw dropped and the vet was laughing hysterically..he said.."maybe it's those adorable floppy ears"
oh well...if i don't know what kind of dog someone has for sure i don't put a breed name in the comment, i just say oh what a cute puppy (even if its' an old dog)

I really love looking at everyone's pictures of their babies, i feel like i'm falling behind taking pictures..i'm probably biased (spelling) but i think boxer puppy pics are the best..all wrinkly..

have fun everyone..

Well, my neighbor has a boxer that really does look like part pit bull, I thought surely it is a mix, the face is way off from a boxers. I asked "what breed is your dog" she said it was a boxer, o well, I do agree with the bad breeding making some look more like pits.
The ear crop job could really throw you off too, that boxer also has a pit bull crop done, the ear is mostly gone, you know the difference I'm talking about.

It's a common mistake. Indy and I walk daily (weather permitting) through the new development behind our home. A young lady came out the front door of her house and asked where I lived.

She jogs and was concerned about running by our home. I had a pleasant conversation with her about Indy and where we lived. She thought he was a pit bull. When she found out that he is never allowed to run free, she was relieved. At the time, he was only six months old.

Not all people like dogs, some have a fear of dogs, which is understandable. If someone doesn't like Indy, it's their loss. Most of the kids will run out to the street to visit with him when we are out for a stroll.

Hopefully Ava will be able to join us in another few weeks.
