I am going through chemo with my little girl Cadence, so I understand how difficult it is. Cadence is 1 1/2 and has a soft tissue sarcoma. She had her first round of chemo and is doing great. Don't give up hope--things can get better. Cadence was worn out her first few days of treatment, but after the 2nd or 3rd day, she started acting more like herself. She had a 5 day course, and has 4 courses. She is responding well to the chemo. Most dogs don't have the type of side effects that humans have. Cadence was sick one night, but the oncologist gave her a shot of Zofran, which is an anti-emetic, so that, in combination with her Centrine works to keep her from being sick. Did you get a lot of other pills to give your dog? Cadence has a whole bunch, but I've got it down now. Trust me--I know how overwhelming this whole process is, but it does get better. You will find a ton of support here on BW--I know I did. Plus, please feel free to send a private message to me if you have any questions or you just want to vent. I know this is a very frustrating and draining time, but you and your baby will get through this. As I said, Cadence is doing great and she also have an aggressive form of cancer. Just don't give up--these babies are very strong!

Thank you so much for your support and kind words. My thoughts and prayers are to you and Candence. I'm sure Candence will pull thru and live a long and happy life.
Freckles has quite a bit of vitamins to take to booster her hemoglobins up. The oncologist recommended Slow Fe, Pet Tab, and Fish Oil. She only has to take 1 medication and that is for her heart. I would ask the oncologist what it would take to keep her strong and booster her blood count.

I just checked my options and the email notification was disabled. You should be able to send emails now. Sorry! Anyway, I hope that you are both doing okay. The only vitamin the oncologist told us to give Cadence was a Centrum Silver. She's on all kinds of other meds for the chemo--anti-nausea, appetite stimulant, antibiotics, and pain med that needs to be taken with Pepcid. I had to make a spreadsheet to keep everything in order!

So far so good after the first chemo session
Hi Folks,
It has been a few days after Freckles' first chemo session. She is doing great. She was tired for the first 2 days but no vomitting or loose stool. She seems like she is back to normal. On Friday we will be going in for an ultrasound to see how her liver is doing as well as a blood count. Her oncologist is so nice - she has called to check up on her. The only concerns I have is and wondering if anyone has experienced this.. Is a shortness of breath after using doxorubicin? It seems to have ended but it was a little scary seeing her having a bit of a time breathing.

Went in for Freckles blood test

We went in for our first blood test after the first chemo session. Everything is looking pretty good so far. The vet says that she is doing great and hopes that the cancer does not take into any type of affect. Unfortunately, she as seen dogs do well with cancer then boom - it hits. If everything goes well and we are praying that Freckles gets thru all her chemo sessions - we are going to try an experimental practice. We are going to try using tomaxifin, with doxycycline and something else. I am very familiar with tomaxifin because my mom is using it. My mom is so far a breast cancer and brain tumor survivor. We are praying a lot and we are so grateful for everyday we have with Freckles and her border collie buddy Pepper. We call them the puppypower duo.

Getting ready for the 2nd chemo session
Hi Folks,
Hope everyone is doing well. We just got back from a camping trip. Freckles and Pepper had a great time. We are hoping to take Freckles somewhere next month.
This Friday will be her second chemo session. We are hoping that things will continue to go well.
