thanks for the advice... we have a vet appointment later today, and i am going to get dagney tested for coiltis and coccidia... i'll keep you updated.

dagney's blood tests came back normal... the vet thought that there may be something wrong with his pancreas, but he is fine... the vet is going to culture his stool sample to see if anything grows and put dagney on a 10 day antibiotic... he has no more blood in his stool, but they are getting soft again.. and, he lost 4 1/2 pounds since his last vet visit in mid february (he's one year and now weighs 59 pounds)... she thinks that dagney probably has a food allergy... we are going to keep him on the solid gold for a while and see if he improves

Just wondering if you received any word/results from the tests?

My Champ continued to have loose stools, and after several fecal samples were tested, it was determined he had Giardia - which causes loose stools as well. Just today I finished up the 5 day run of medicine. Unfortnately he also pulled a muscle in his left rear leg this past week, so he's on 'crate rest' and medicine for that as well :( Poor little guy.

Having read up on Giardia, it sure seems like that was what was causing my Champs constantly runny stools. And this mess can be recurring if not handled correctly (proper cleaning - the parasite is virtually unkillable - and can apparently be pased on to humans as well! Yuk!) He's on a Chicken and Rice diet - again. Unlike kibble, he'll eat this stuff by the bowlfull and always look for more! But after a week plus on the chicken and rice last time - eating much more then he would kibble - he didn't gain a pound. He's a skinny little bone. Again, Giardia can prevent weight gain and cause mal-nutrition. I'm a bit worried. Now - back on the Chicken and Rice - he's again eating like a horse. Hopefully the correct medication this time will pull him through this intestinal mess and allow him to get some proper nutrition and gain some weight.

Now I need to get outside and get everything cleaned up proper. Otherwise we'll be back to square one.

thanks for the concern kragbax... dagney is doing great now (finally!)... his blood test came back negative and the vet thought that something may have been wrong with his pancreas, but that came back negative also... his stool sample was fine and they cultured it also, with no bacteria growing...

dagney has been on Nature Variety Praire chicken and rice for about 3 weeks now.... we also put a holistic powder supplement in his food for his food transition by eagle pack and his stools are harder and his acne on his face and chin is slowly going away... the amount of poops he make a day has also lessened... i put a post about the food and if anyone else had any luck with it, and i got no responses of yet...

dagney also gained back the 5 pounds he lost infebruary and march... he's back to 63 pounds (14 months old)...

we have also limited his treats, which i think is also helping... cross your fingers that this food will work for the long haul... fyi, they also make a BARF food as well...
