Harley get's diarhhea, or has allergies to just about everything. Eukanuba low residue is a good food for diarhhea, you have to get it from your vet. We use it on dogs at the kennel who get diarhhea and it always clears it up. My dog is allergic to the fish in it so I have him on Nutro chicken and oatmeal for sensitive stomachs. A lot of people on this board use it with success.

i am going to call the vet and get him tested for giardia... i have never even heard of it until now... we tried to wellness simple solutions and it was a disaster. he is now on california natural and tonight we are going to try pumpkin with it... i'll keep everyone posted.

I can't believe no one has suggested Natural Balance Duck & Potato for you yet. Buster had same prob for 6-7mo. He tried wellness puppy (by far the worst..way too rich for a dog with sensitive stomach...although they have since released the simple solution, which wasn't available then), Chick soup, nutro, and then NB Duck & Potato. After a few weeks on NB he started stiffening up. I do think that we switched way too much, expecting results too fast. Don't expect them to firm up within a week (or even 2 or 3 for that matter). It seems as if NB D&P is one of the best options (besides raw) for dogs with sensitive stomachs. As I said though, stick with something for awhile- and I bet that Wellness SS is similar to NB D&P. We had Buster on like 4 different foods between 7wk-6mo, not including what the breeder had him on before that. Complete error on our part, and who knows, maybe he would have had eventual success if we hadn't interfered. My advice is choose something w/very simple ingredients, not too rich, and stick with it for at least 1.5 mo. Now, Buster is rotating on NV Prarie, and doing awesome.. I know how bad it sucks, 6 mo of soft serve was horrible.

thanks for your response... we started trying california natural lamb and rice... but he had liquid poops... tried the pumpkin with it... helped for a couple of days and then went liquid again... now, he is on boiled chicken and rice for a week or so (his poops are still loose, but not liquid)... my plan is to gradually add california natrual back in...

Did you try the California Natural chicken & rice since he seems to have done well on the boiled chicken & rice? Very simple ingredients that may agree with him better than the lamb. You can also mix in some rice or baby rice cereal (the boxed kind you add water to). Aside from considering a switch to raw this may help firm things up barring anything more concrete your vet may find.

i was going to pick up california natural chicken and rice this weekend... dagney has been on boiled chicken and rice for about 4 days now and his poops are still really loose... i was going to give it a full week before i call the vet.

You might try gradually mixing the kibble into the rice (w/chicken) almost as you would transition from one kibble to another. At least this gives his system time to adjust to the new food as oppossed to changing from one day to the next.

California natural is way too rich for my dog. I tried it because he has a lot of allergies (chicken because he is allergic to lamb). He had an upset stomach and diarhhea while on it. Some companies make a sensitive stomach formula. I had a lot of problems with Harley because he has to have a sensitive stomach formula, but he's allergic to a lot of them. Maybe part of your dogs problem is allergies. Does he have any allergy symptoms like red ears, acne, or excessive licking?
