Ditto that!
If you can handle all those listed you will be fine!
I have two males, one 8 months and the other 5 months. SO FAR I have had no problems with fighting and they are best buds!

All this great advice is helping us out as well. We have one almost 6 month old male boxer who is a joy and loves to play with my parents dog when we visit. It took ahile for my parents dog to warm up to him, but Cooper finally did it! We thought it would be great to give Cooper (and us) another buddy. We both work during the day and could not handle going through the housebreaking etc. again and would like to give a resuce a home. I had posted this on the Rescue board as well, but it seems like there is great advice here as well! We were also wondering whether a male or female would be best. PSI, where are you in NJ?

2 is better than 1!

I actually forgot about this post...We've had Kaia for a little over 5 weeks now and I've totally forgotten what it was like to live with only 1 boxer. Tucker and Kaia are the best of friends. When she first came home Tucker would follow her around and check up on her all the time. Also, he was so gentle with her. The poor guy was covered in scratches for about the first 2 weeks. But as she's gotten older and bigger (and rougher!) he's adapted quite well. He'll growl at her if she starts playing too rough but that's not very often. Right now they're rolling around on the living room floor carrying on like you wouldn't believe. They're so fun to watch we don't even need the tv anymore. I think at this point Tucker would be lost without her.

So...I pretty much agree with what everyone else has said...as long as you have the funds to support more than one, go for it!! Two is much more fun than one!

I would have to disagree with the statement that 2 dogs are double everything - I find that 2 are only 1.5 x as much "work" as one. You have to feed, clean, and exercise one anyway, so it doesn't really seem like double the trouble.

We got Tony, our second dog when Luke was 1 year old. Luke spent the first year of his life on a farm with 2 other dogs. Then we moved into the city and Luke was really lonely and mopey. I felt bad for him being alone when I was at school and if I was too tired to play with him in the evening. We got Tony and they entertain eachother all day long. I definately think 2 dogs are better than one.

I would recommend the female however. I think you could avoid a lot of the same-sex "pecking order" disputes that way.

Good luck and keep us posted.

I know I am VERY late on this thread. But I have to say that 2 Boxers was so much easier for me than the one. I had Crystal for a full year before I brought home Booker T. Crystal has more energy than any dog I have ever seen. She ran me ragged and came back for more! When Booker T came home, those two would run in the yard and come in after they were good and tired.

A tired Boxer is a good Boxer!

So good luck and I hope you got the bitch. Different sexes usually get along great. And also make sure your boy is neutered and you have the bitch spayed to avoid future problems.
