Hello everyone. This message is for all the "more then one boxer" owners. A coworker of mine has two 8 week Brindle boxer pups for sale (only $250.00). One is a male and one is a female. We currently have a 6 month old Boxer male "PSI" and are thinking of buying one of the pups. We need to know which pup would be a better buddy for Psi, the male or female? Also, is it alot more work taking care of two boxers. Psi always wants to play and mommy and daddy are sometimes tired so we were thinking that if we get Psi a running partner that it might make it easier on us. We want to fully investigate this before making such a huge commitment. What do you guys think? Any advice about the care and possible things that we might have in store if we get one of the pups. HELP PLEASE!

Well we get our 2nd boxer in 23 more days. I'll let you know then;) . For what it's worth though the biggest reason we had for getting another was for a playmate for our current boxer Tucker (9 months). And cause puppies are so cute;) . Just kidding on that last one...

I have three boxers ( 2males, female) now after getting the pup about four weeks ago. I vote for the female. Ther's possibly less problems down the road with one of each. Is an extra dog more work? I don't consider taking care of my clan work. But if you have reservations and are not absolutely, positively certain you want another dog, wait.

I'm sorry. I didn't mean "work" in a negative way at all. Psi is the apple of my eye and I would like to be educated on anything he may go through if we bring another puppy into the home. If two boxers are great together and the male/female combination is great then wonderful. We just want to fully understand some of the things that might occur with adding a new addition. Example...biting, fighting rough, sharing toys, sharing crate etc. Psi is our first pup and it has been a true experience so I am sure there are different experiences when you have two. We researched prior to getting him so it is only natural to research having two. Sorry if I offended you at all. Work was probably a poor choice of words.

I was not offended at all. My 18mo. old male and twelve week female are inseperable, and have been from the beginning. We took him along when we picked her out, and hit it off right away. I'm sure there may be a future dispute here and there between them. Two boxers are great. It's a million laughs just watching them zoom through the house playing. Good luck with your decision!

We have two females. 6 and 4 months. It has been an adventure so far. Bailey does not get along with male dogs so a female was our only choice and it has worked out fine having two females. Luckily they do not fight over food, toys, etc. Bailey is actually very motherly to Jasmine. They do not like to apart. Good luck and hopefully everything will work out. I say that two is better than one but yes they are a lot of "work" (I mean the same thing as you by "work":) )

:D

Double the boxers is DOUBLE THE FUN, double the vet bills, double the toys, double the food, double the crates, double the trouble. I wouldn't trade either of mine for anything!

You just have to know what you are getting yourself into. They can be SUCH a handful at times. The holes that are dug in the back yard grow to be DOUBLE the size, when one gets sick they both get sick, etc. All in all though, they are worth every bit of trouble they cause, and I love mine more than anything except hubby!

I would reccomend getting two crates b/c the new pup will need his own space. Also, if you want to buy a few new toys,t hat's fine but they are going to ALWAYS want what the other has anyway!

I think you should get one if have you have taken into consideration the extra expenses mentioned above. If the money isn't a problem for you then GO FOR IT! :) I might would get the female, though... to cause less Alpha-Male bickering.

Have fun and keep us updated! :)

I also have two boxers. Tegan (female) was almost three when we got Owen (male). Tegan was definatley not happy when Owen came home, there wasn't any fighting, but you could tell that she didn't really want to play with him either. The day that we picked Owen up we put him in that car with Tegan and she pushed him onto the floor and would not let him on the seat for the entire 5 hour drive home!

We really tried to stay out of any "discussions" that Tegan and Owen had becuase we felt that they had to determine who was the boss and their own rules. Their "discussions" never got out of hand, and we never had to step in.

I found that we had to make a special effort to ensure that Tegan received as much or more attention than Owen in the beginning becuse we didn't want her to feel left out or abandoned. It also helped to crate Owen periodically while they were together to give Tegan a break.

Owen was crated while we were out of the house, and Tegan was left to roam free and choose if she wanted to spend time with him - which she did, we would always come home and she would be sleeping beside his crate!

Tegan has been a dominant dog from day one, and we heard that males will be more likely to submit to a female than another female would, therefore we chose to get a male, and that's exactly how it has worked out.

We also took Tegan to the breeders place twice to look at the puppies with us. This helped her to be a bit prepared for the new addition. She was excelent with all the puppies, but she definatley picjed Owen as her favorite, which was really neat becuase he was the puppy that my husband I already liked too!

It may be a good idea to bring PSI to meet the two puppies for himself?!!

Being that PSI is still quite young you may not have a problem getting a male or female, depending on his personality.

Having two dogs IMO is better than one. They always have each other should we not be home, and they alsways have a playmate when we go for walks and don't see other dogs. I really enjoy having and training two dogs with such different personalities too, they teach ME someting different/new everyday.

The vet bills and food are double, but that's to be expected.

Good luck with your decision.

Yes! Get another one!

I have two 9 month old males and I couldn't imagine what it would be like with only one. Oh yes I could, we'd have no furniture, trees, ect....:p The two keep eachother busy playing all day and night. We take them on walks together every night but we don't have the over exctied puppies! It's a very calm walk. Having two is a life saver. I wouldn't know wether to get a girl or boy though. My two play with a 2 month old girl down the street and they are all fine. Good luck. p.s. more dogs means more food and more poopies!

Absolutely!

My two are almost 2 years old. They have been together since Baxter was 12 weeks and Bella was 4 weeks old.

There isn't a thing I would change and they are virtually connected to each other.

I did moan and groan during housebreaking time, however, Bax helped housebreak Bella and neither have had an accident in almost 16 months. *knocks on wood*

Who ever said "Double" this and that is correct..
Double the fun, Double the laughter, double the trouble and most definately I've doubled my kisses!

I love their antics, they are completely lost in each other. I believe if either one was an "only child" I wouldn't laugh nearly as hard.

Bella is certainly the dominant one and has been since she arrived on the scene.
