HELP!...Puppy w/Diarrhea

My 15 wk old Bella has had diarrhea for about 5 days and I noticed mucus on her privates after she urinates. I have to try and get a urine & stool sample tonite and drop it off to the vet before her appt on Friday. She's been eating Merrick's puppy plate and she was doing fine for awhile. Then a friend of ours was dog sitting and couldn't find her food, so he gave her puppy treats. That made it worse because when my husband got home today, she had diarrhea everywhere in & outside of her crate and vomit. I'm not sure what kind of diet to put her on while I wait until Friday. Any suggestions???

I'm sorry to hear your baby, Bella, isn't well. If she has had diarrhea for 5 days, and is now vomiting, I would call your vet today. Does she have any other symptoms, i.e. loss of appetite, lethargy, etc.? Usually for digestive upsets, a 12 - 24 hour fast, and then boiled chicken breast and rice (small frequent meals) for a few days, slowly adding in her regular food if she is doing well on the chicken/rice. Check with your vet first, though. Please keep us posted. Sending healing thoughts and hope Bella is feeling better soon.

I agree with Grunt's Mom. I would not wait until Friday, especially with a pup. Five days is a long time. Is she drinking? Hope little Bella feels better soon

I just came back from the vet to drop off the stool/urine sample. He was able to see her and gave her a Centrine shot to stop the diarrhea and as well as pills for the next couple of days. He told me to keep her on a bland diet of boiled turkey burger/rice and call on Friday to find out the results of the stool/urine samples. Strangely, Bella is still very active, still drinking and seems to be very hungry....So, I guess it's just a waiting game for now.

I'm glad you got Bella in to be checked by your vet, and that you got meds for her. It's good she's active, drinking and wants to eat. Please keep us posted on how she's doing. Continuing to send healing vibes to your baby girl.

Found the culprit

After almost 3 wks of the squirts, Bella is coming along. I decided to change the dog food we were feeding her (Merrick's Puppy Plate) and gave her Blue Buffalo Puppy Lamb & Brown Rice. I mixed it with rice and gave her a teaspoon of Pet Pectillin Diarrhea medication. She's been on this diet for about 2 days and today was the first day she didn't have watery stools. It was still soft but nothing like the way it was these past few weeks. It was so bad that I just buried it in the yard everytime she went (GROSS!). So far so good...

Acidophilus and ProZyme also work well for dogs with tummy issues. My pup has colitis and gets both with each meal and he's fine with it.
