good resource!

laura,

your story is really upsetting/frustrating. but, it rung a bell in my head. i had remembered reading an article last year in the Bark magazine about a woman who was trying to invoke anti-chain laws. i found the article...the organizations website is: http://dogsdeservebetter.com

they have sample letters to send to the "animal caretaker" letters to send to your representative, and all sorts of other info. theres a link to a list of towns that already have anti-chain laws---several are in texas.

good luck, i hope you can help him

I feel your struggle since there was a couple in my Mom's neighborhood that did the same thing. This dog was chained by a three foot lead in the garage. The only time they opened the garage was to spray it down with a hose to get the urine and feces out of there. The neighbors got together and called the ASPCA (I believe - I can double check with her) who did come to investigate only to find out that the dog had been put to sleep only days earlier due to old age (supposedly). Since then the couple moved, I'm not sure if it was because of this or not, and my mom told me she had heard they do not have any new pets - thankfully. Can you get some of your neighbors to help you with the calls? Bombard them with calls and maybe they'll at least get over there to help. Good luck - please let us know if you get to help this poor fur baby.

Laura, That is a heartbreaking situation. It hurts me to hear about that kind of treatment. I'm glad that your so willing to try and do something with the situation.

Kelly - I checked out that website, those brochures are pretty neat - I want to buy one their shirts and wear it now, especially after looking at some of the pics. The pictures on the site are very hard to look at. I was crying by the time I got done.

I will make a special trip to DOG NAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is SO wrong- and the god of Doggy Heaven will PUNISH the owner!!!

I seriously am going to pray about this situation- seems like it is the only thing that will work in this situation- that is if you dont dog nap.

Laura, go ask them if you can buy their dog from them. I will send you the money. :*(

Thank you, I thought about helping this dog by other means, but I having trouble because when I am at home they are at home. I tried to get to the dog but they saw me and came outside. I wish I knew someone who would be able to do it during the day. Actually they close their garage during the day and the dog is in there but you can't get to it without opening the door and too many people are at home to do this. I have tried while I am at home to get closer to this dog but too many people know me and if they see me take this dog they will know who to go too. I am know as the dog lady or crazy dog lady because I am always out walking my dogs and checking on dogs in the area. I will use of those brochures and see if it helps. At least it is worth a try. I wish there were dog nappers out there but I haven't heard of any. I also wish my neighbors were more proactive but they just keep to themselves. I will continue to make a nuisance of myself at the local SPCA but I don't think it will help. Our animal control is horrible they just don't care I have reported a few dogs running around in the street and they just didn't care I had to get the dogs and bring them home. Thank you all for your suggestions. If any of this works I will let you all know. If anyone else has suggestions I appreciate all your help. I knew boxerworld would help me.
Thanks Laura Sorry so long

I hope this helps - maybe they will reconsider what they are doing if they see these brochures. I will certainly pray for this poor dog and hope these people will be swayed to do the right thing.

You would be surprised at what just one voice can do. It can be discouraging, but if you can help save this poor dog you'll feel so good about being a thorn in there side. Remember we are here to listen and try to help as much as we can.
Good luck! :)

We have a similar situation with my sis's neighbor - her lab is chained all day and in an isolated room all night. Course they wont giver her up - because they LOVE her too much.
I am also at the point of dognapping - only have nowhere to take her. Its very sad - the dog perks her ears when her or the kids walk by but they dont even glance at her...............guess its easier to pretend she doesnt exsist - then you dont have to care.
my hubby and I did report some horse abuse in Feb - at that time we were told that - although horses were not protected yet - companion animals could be taken away if not exercised properly. Please look at the ASPCA website - maybe they can help guide you.

Good Luck

That really burns me!!!!!!!!!!!

Get a hold of your local humane agent and report them asap!! Boxer or no boxer that is no way to treat any animal!! People like that don't deserve any type of love that an animal can give them!! That dog deseves a good home!!

if the welfare agent is not responding , go higher. talk to the president of your local aspca. if that doesnt work either, go even higher. keep climbing the ladder and complainig until someone does SOMETHING!

I printed out some letters to put in their mailbox and their address is with dogs deserve better to see if they can help too. The woman with the lab if you can get the dog give it to the humane society out there and see if they can help. Also try rescue places and see if they will take the dog. Just tell them you found the dog wandering. Lab rescues may help. I am working on this situation and will keep everyone here informed. I will bug the SPCA until something is done. Thanks
