I have a 2 year 4 month old female fawn with black mask called Lola. She is 22" tall and 55lb very lean and toned with muscle. She is very active and agile however new years day I was laying in bed and my wife let her in the room but instead of jumping up on the bed and licking my face till I cannot breath as usual she kept walking round the bed. She put her front paws up but could not get up I thought she was just being lazy so reached down to help her up and she squeeled. We looked her all over and cannot see any swelling, cuts or sore spots we pressed all over. She is not as bouncy as usual, its like she has no power in her legs. We first thought it was the back ones but after keeping a careful eye on her the last few days we think its the front and maybe the shoulders. She is eating and pooping normal. I am giving her a few more days to see if she gets better on her own but if she doesn't I will be taking her to the vets. She walks normal and without pain she just yelps when she tries to push herself up using her front legs. Does anyone have an idea what could be wrong with her I was thinking a pulled or torn muscle at first but maybe a fracture? though she doesn't walk any different or with a limp. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated I just want my crazy bounce all over the place Lola back.

Thanks Nick

It could also be a problem with her back. I would definitely take her to be checked out.

Not wanting to jump up is the number one symptom of a back injury. I would definitely take her to the vet and try to keep her as quiet as possible until then.

Getting better slowly

Thanks to all who replied I just wanted to share with you that she seems to be better, I took her for her first walk tonight and she pulled just like always. I have had her resting for the past week. She chases my other dogs round the yard as usual and jumps out the door down into the yard but still has a hard time pushing herself up or jumping up on to the couch however I have seen her stretch out her front legs in front of her and arch her back when she wakes up with no problem. I believe it was maybe a sprained muscle or something of that nature and maybe between her two front legs on her chest, it has been raining here a bit and the yard was muddy maybe she did the splits and hurt it that way. She does the wiggles when i get home and has been roling on her back kicking with her legs like she does when she wants to play. I am keeping a very close eye on her and still keeping her excercise restricted, however if she still isn't jumping in a few days I will take her to the vet but as I say she seems to be a lot better than she was. Unfortunatly my wife and child have been ill and I didn't have anyone to take her to the vets otherwise she would have gone but now as shes better I am going to just wait a few more days and see, will keep you posted, thanks again,Nick
