I agree with the crate - they are great for training. I would like to see some pics of your baby too. If you search the forums, you'll find tons of info on crate training/obedience training, etc. Good Luck! :)

My first boxer was a GSD / boxer mix. She was one of the smartest, calmest and funniest dogs I have ever seen - she possessed all the best characteristics of each of the breeds. She definitely had the boxer personality and the GSD focus - she was an amazing animal, and still very much missed.

If your baby is anything like mine was, you will be very pleased with her personality, intelligence and demeanor (especially once she grows out of puppyhood).

You guys are great!

Day 2....

Picked up a nice BIG steel crate/cage from Walmart ($74.95) and today I'll try doing more searches on how to properly raise him using the cage.

He is 7 weeks old and a real charmer. He sleeps with us all night long and doesn't have any accidents at all. In the morning I take him outside and he does his pee/poo thing.

PIC COMING TODAY!!!

Thanks again!
(Feedback still and always welcome :)

Sounds like you're gonna be busy

Hey congrats on your new buddy.
I just fostered a boxer/bird dog of some sort. It was so funny to see a boxer mix dog Acting like a "pointer" when ever he saw birds. Anyway he had a great personality, good withkids. respected our cat (but not others :), was not hyper, but did like yours, get separation anxiety. You know what worked for me. It gave me a good hour or so. I s those Dog toys with The funky hole in the center. THey have dog squeeze cheese or something you put in the middle. Trust me....He will work on that ....forever hahahahaha
I love it. anyway good luck S@ndi

Jimmyd1 - just a couple of suggestions that I can offer. We have a 4 mos old Boxer puppy who is the light of our life. Congrats on your new furbaby! Best advice I can add is get a routine in place and definitely use the crate. We crate Coco anytime we're gone. Getting her used to it was just a matter of making it a friendly place for her, sometimes people choose to feed their pups in the crate so they will associate it with something pleasant. When she was real little and would fall asleep on the couch or where ever, we would put her in the crate and she would sleep there and then wake up there. Now she chooses to go in there to nap and when she is told "get in your kennel" she'll go without any problem. Potty training - it helps that they're crate trained, normally they choose not to mess where they sleep. Take him out first thing in the morning, after playing and after eating. We took Coco out about every hour to hour and a half. We choose to use a certain spot in the yard as well as a certain term such as "Go Pee Pee" or "Go Poo Poo". Now when we take her out and say that, her nose hits the ground and she does her business. Always, Always treat & praise when he does what your asking, eventually he'll get the idea and do it most everytime. Just remember lots of patience :). Hope this helps. Good Luck!

Wow, 7 weeks old!! How fun! They are so small & cuddly at that age... soak it up! I kinda miss having Lael sleep on my lap. She still tries, but at 45 lbs... she's one big pup now. ;)

Click on this Crate Training link to find some very helpful information as well. I also, like others here, highly reccommend it and once your pup loves his crate... life gets so much easier. :D

Good Luck! And Congrats!
