Billbgh - you are right, I am concerned about ALL of what you mentioned which is why it is so hard to decide. I would basically only be moving in with my friend Just so that I would qualify to adopt a dog from the boxer rescue. The boxer rescue that I am looking at absolutely refuses to adopt out a dog to someone living in an apt.. So, I don't HAVE to move, but I do if I want to get one from them and I believe that with the right dog it is possible. Believe me, I would only move forward with this plan if I know it will work for EVERYONE involved. :)

Lori, I am so glad to hear(or rather read) what you said. I think that so many people think selfishly(not that you are) but I understand when you lose a boxer how devastating and upsetting it is. We got Rocky just two days after Jelly Bean passed, so I completely feel for you. I believe that everything works out the way that it should and even if you don't move, then who's to say that eventually you won't adopt. Speaking from experience, I just had a little foster pup(husband found her) that stole my heart and I really wanted to keep her, I loved her from the get go. However, I knew that I couldn't have 3 dogs, two kids, 1 husband and a crazy life. So, I loved her as much as I possibly could until I found her a home. I believe that she is where she is supposed to be. On a 250 acre farm with lots of cattle.(She is an aussie mix, with strong herding instincts.) My vet reccommend her new dad and he met all of my criteria and then some. The only thing that we didn't agree on was her name(Mocha), but he calls her Mo, so how could I be upset? Hang in there, take care of you first and then the right boxer will find you. You are a good kind person and I am glad that you are here on BW:)

Erin - thank you, that is very nice of you to say. Just so you all know, I actually just sent a very pitiful email to the boxer rescue explaining my dilemma, and I told them all about Harley, including pictures. I just know they will probably shoot me down when they see that dirty APARTMENT word, but I did ask if I really had to move in with my friend to adopt a rescue, would they be willing to bring the baby I'm interested in over there to meet Gino prior to my deciding to move my whole life. We'll see what they say I guess, if they respond at all  Now I'm gonna be all nervous

Sometimes rule are meant to be broken. I am glad you sent them a letter, they will see what a good mom you could be to one of their rescues. I always believe that things happen for a reason, and usually for the best. There is a furbaby waiting out there for you, you just haven't met yet. Good Luck.

Well, I was right. The rescue shot me down in cold blood. Didn't even bother to answer my question about a doing some kind of meet-and-greet with that female I am intersted in. Based on her response, don't even know that she read the entire email. I am so frustrated :(

Don't give up...from all your posts I can see the enormous love you have to offer. The number one thing animals need is love and attention and everything will fall into place! :) I would not give up on this rescue, infact e-mail her again or get another contact there. Good luck to you and keep us posted....:)

Damn that sucks! Sorry to hear that. They are such a hard rescue to work with. I tried to adopt through them on 3 different occasions and had problems everytime. I frequently look at their site and tried to donate items to them, but I don't think I'll ever try to adopt from them again. I think haha.

Lori, so sorry to hear that the adoption was a no. I too believe that you are worthy of a beautiful boxer that deserves all of your love. Hang in there, I don't doubt that your dog is around the corner.

I could not adopt from the local rescue for a similar reason. Although we have a house, the yard is not fenced. I kept watching petfinder, and went afield. I got Oscar from a bully breed rescue group in Wisconsin, and Mali from a shelter in Iowa. Not all rescues require a fenced yard. For Mali, who escaped a 6' fence at the shelter, it is actually a better situation. The director of the shelter was happy to place Mali in a home with Boxer experience, and I took Oscar with me to meet her before finalizing the adoption. I take them each out on a leash, yes, it's work, but it's what I have to do. If you want to rescue, keep looking and you'll find the right dog. It may be from an all breed rescue or shelter, but you'll find the right Boxer. BTW, before I found Mali, I wanted to adopt a fawn female from a local all-breed rescue. They didn't want to place a second dog in a home with no fence. If I had adopted the fawn female (who was placed fairly quickly), what would have happened to Mali? If she had been place in a home with a fenced yard and escaped, she could get hurt. Things happen for a reason. Good luck with your decisions.

so sorry to hear you are so frustrated.
keep trying though. not all rescues will shoot you down because you live in an apartment.
it's a shame that some have that rule without even meeting the potential "parents" of one of their boxers.
hang in there.
try contacting them again, maybe.....sometimes persistance pays off. but at the same time you don't want them to get annoyed with you. it's times like these when we have to practice being super nice to people :)
