Happy Holidays everyone. I've been hanging out here for a while and then finally got the chance to register. My story: I do not have a boxer, yet. Im in the process of moving into a larger house so when the move is complete, I plan to get one. I love the breed, a few of my friends and family have them and I can not wait to get one. In the meantime, Im going to hang out here and learn as much as I can.

Talk to you soon.

welcome

i'm a first time owner of a beautiful baby girl boxer - she is devine. my husbands family have always had boxers and when we got married and brought a larger house (he had an apartment i had a small house) with a good size yard he naturally wanted to get a boxer. i wasn't so sure as i hadn't had a dog for about 17yrs but once i saw her that was it she was mine. of course its mummy that has spoilt her and she is more my dog than daddy's (was was to be his dog but she had other ideas lol).

i'm still amazed at home human like she is, she is so loving, cuddly, fun and into everything i swear i have a 2yr old lol

i know when you get your boxer he/she will bring you much love and happiness as my little brandy has to my husband and i

merry christmas

I do have one question for all

Is the boxer breed so different and unique with his/her traits? What I mean is everyone on this board has nothing but positives to say about the dog. Its athletic, a protector, great with kids, completely family oriented and even though its a larger dog, its a great indoor pet. I haven't looked, but are there other sites dedicated to other breeds that talks as highly of their dogs as you? If I didn't know better, the boxer seems to be the perfect breed. My sister tells me just how human like her boxer is. I have never heard owners of say Labs or retrievers describe their dogs this way.

What is your input?

Thanks,
will

Welcome to BW

We have just recently moved into a house from an apartment and we got our boxer within a month and a half of moving in! I just couldn't wait to have a dog in my life again.
I found the same about Boxers as you have - I love the way they look and once I started looking into the breed I heard nothing but great things! Perhaps one bad thing about them that I have heard is they don't have the longest life span - one more reason to enjoy them every day you have them!

Best of luck to you and your future boxer!! Happy Holidays!

Boxer=Human

My husband and I are the proud owners of our third boxer (yes, the life span CAN be short), and we will never own another breed. As to your question, is this the perfect breed, and do dog owners of other breeds feel as obsessed as us boxer owners, THEY DON"T USUALLY GET IT! Joe (11 month old male boxer) and I walk at the park at least 5 out of 7 nights, and have gotten to know some really nice dog owners there, but sometimes when we exchange stories, they look at me like I am exagerating the things that Joe does. I swear he is almost human and understands at least 100 words and phrases (lots of work with him and one on one time). My mom, who is not a dog lover at all, calls herself "nanny" and in the 10 months that we have had Joe, has truly fallen in love with him. To make a long story longer, I truly believe that the boxer is very unique for its intelligence and empathy. On the flip side, boxers are not for everyone, as evident by the number in rescue and shelters. They are EXTEREMELY hyper the first 2 years (at least mine have been), require a lot of patience and one on one time (which not everyone can do), and they get huge before they calm down. If you have worked with them properly, when they mature, they will bring you infinite joy, but too many people give up before they get to that point. I can definately understand why some boxer rescues will not adopt to people who have never owned one. Hope this helps and when you get your boxer baby, remember, consistency and patience will go along way!!!
